RICARDO CALDERON of the Salvadoran Union Front (FSS)
Democracy Center-->45 Mt. Auburn St, Harvard Square
From the Frontlines of the Struggle Against Privatization--
Salvadoran Union Leader Speaks Out!!"
In the last year, the Salvadoran government had made aggressive moves to privatize two essential public services: water and the public health care system. In defense of their "pay or die" national privatization schemes, the Salvadoran right-wing government has arrested, brutalized, and charged with "committing acts of terrorism" those who peacefully protest these
destructive plans. On the frontlines of popular resistance to privatization are the labor unions--who are also hit the hardest by the government's
attempts to crush popular opposition to privatization.
Join us for an evening with Ricardo Calderon--long-time unionist and leader of the union struggle--as he recounts the recent hard-won victories against public service privatization and the striking challenges that the labor movement continues to face as it spearheads the resistance to privatization!!
