By now, most people know that global warming is a huge problem and that it is primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels. The question is: What do we need to do?

Mountain Top Removal is currently obliterating the southern Appalachian Mountains. Entire peaks are knocked off and whole valleys are filled with the toxic rubble, covering freshwater streams, displacing communities, and endangering the lives of countless people and animals. Come hear first person accounts from people who have worked in the coal fields to put an end to Mountain Top Removal at the Climate Justice teach-in, at Lucy Parson Center (549 Columbus Ave) on saturday november 17th from noon to 3.

November 17th is part of a national call to put the spotlight on the financiers of coal, the big money banks of CitiGroup and Bank of America that are funding climate change. As we follow the money trail we'll discover that both banks also have massive investments in national and global carbon trading markets. Why is this?

This teach-in features a special presentation by Larry Lohmann, a founding member of the Durban Group for Climate Justice that formed in Durban South Africa to question the central role of carbon trading in official responses climate change. Larry is briefly touring the Northeast to share his experiences of the failures of carbon trading in Europe, India, Brazil, Uganda, and elsewhere, and is visiting the US to learn more about carbon trading schemes that are currently being developed here.

On saturday the 17th we will be asking ourselves the tough questions about the contradictions of carbon trading and "offset culture" and why failed approaches are so popular among the world's elite. In an open discussion with anti-coal activists and Larry Lohmann, we will not only learn more about the problems we are facing, but work together to talk about what a real solution could be.
