Democracy Now Book Tour Speech Posted!
20 May 2008
Democracy Now's Amy Goodman and brother David spoke in Jamaica Plain about their new book, "Standing Up to the Madness."
492 Cafe has produced a recording of David Goodman's talk, which included many stories from the book.

Note: Version 3 of the speech has now replaced version 1. (Is Cleaner.)

In this wonderful talk, David shares positive stories of everyday heroes featured in the book, focusing on the Connecticut librarians locked in a room to watch their own trial, which is shrouded in court-ordered and Patriot Act-decreed secrecy even as Congress hears lies that no civil rights have ever been violated under the heinous act.

At this same time, one of the librarians, formerly an outspoken opponent of the act, is effectively prohibited from speaking against it, as his former verbal sparring opponent (who calls the act his "mistress!") has him gagged, in a most bizarre way, by this very law.

The talk also includes the story of a Government Scientist barred by the Bush White House from announcing an observed temperature rise.

Amy Goodman called some local heroes to the podium. Among these were Carlos Arredondo, Psychologist Stephen Soldz (see them at http://www.492cafe.org) and Iraq Veterans Against the War co-founder Liam Madden.

The sibling authors rocked the nearly full house on this first anniversary of the Jamaica Plain Forum. There was a very line for book signings and the Authors departed into the soggy night, in search of material for their fourth book, no doubt.

The recording airs on WZBC’s Truth and Justice Radio on Sundays May 25 after 8:30 am.)

We were unable to obtain broadcast quality recordings of Amy after she moved out of range by standing on a prayer kneeler to see the audience over some tall microphones. (not mine.) So it goes.
