TJ's House of Vegan Pizza is a workers collective organized with the Industrial Workers of the World.
In March 2008 it came to our attention that the previous owner and boss failed to pay taxes for the year of 2007 and now the Massachusetts Department of Revenue is demanding an initial payment of at least $1000 or they will put a tax lien on the property. We collectivized in November 2007 after which the owner/boss left, leaving the shop to us. Though we have been paying our bills and managing what little money we have much better than before, we are perpetually in a precarious financial state. Nevertheless, we were confident we could pay the $1000 tax bill with what would earn this weekend, but that was before the Police Licensing Unit came in Wednesday night. They demanded we close until we update our Common Victuals License. This means that we have no way to raise the kind of money we need for taxes except by appealing to our friends, comrades and allies.
While TJ's may be a mere restaurant in the eyes of many, TJ's continued existence is essential to prove to ourselves and the world that we don't need bosses to get work done, that we don't need to support cruelty and ecological devastation to make food, and that a radical space is not only wanted, but can thrive despite bureaucratic/financial adversity. Here in Boston, the radical community has very few actual physical toeholds and we need to defend all of them.
Please find it in your hearts and wallets to help our struggling collective. Big and small donations alike are enthusiastically welcomed. You can paypal money to naylor dot a at neu dot edu to support our revolutionary endeavors at 487 Cambridge Street in Allston, MA [though inquiries should be directed to cyd dot grayson at gmail dot com as the neu address hasn't been checked in years]. |

Please Don't Feed the Trolls
Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: "An Internet troll is either a person who sends messages on the Internet hoping to entice other users into angry or fruitless responses, or a message sent by such a person." Boston IMC strives to provide both a grassroots media resource as well as a forum for people to contribute to a meaningful discussion about local issues. Please, when posting comments, be respectful of others and ignore those trying to interrupt or discourage meaningful discourse. Thank you.
