Support for South End Press needed
23 Jul 2008
Support South End Press by voting for their Community Supported Publishing idea and help them get a much needed grant.
--Please forward--

Have you heard of Community Supported Agriculture? Well what about Community Supported Publishing?

http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/2735-Community-Supported-Publishing-

South End Press is applying the principles of CSA to radical book publishing. Like farming, publishing requires a long growing season and lots of resources before the harvest. And like farming the more support we have upfront the better and more diverse books we can publish. As with a CSA, your membership helps sustain independent publishers and provides you with the freshest, most organic, GMO-free books available.

We need your help TODAY! A strong CSP movement will ensure the continued sustainability of South End Press and we want you to help us get there.

You may have received our email earlier this month letting people know about our current financial crisis and asking for support from the South End Press community.
One of the ways we asked for support was by voting for Community Supported Publishing at ideablob.com. Your vote will help us win $20,000 toward building this vital movement. We won our qualifying round and are now in the final, winner-take-all competition!

Starting July 22nd and running through the end of the month we need you to vote for South End Press Community Supported Publishing at http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/2735-Community-Supported-Publishing-

The vote tallies have been reset and the polls are open.

Those who have stepped forward we thank you and ask for your support again. And everyone else, it’s not too late! If you voted already it will just take a second, if you haven’t yet registered it will just take a few minutes (a few minutes that could help save 30 years of radical books).

Please vote today. Please ask your friends, neighbors, and allies to vote. Please ask the person next to you on the subway reading a radical book to vote (and maybe make a new friend). Together let's ensure that South End Press can continue advancing our movements for social justice.

The vote button should turn gray and say “thank you for voting.” For further confirmation that your vote counted (why would you question that in this country?) your username should appear in the recent activity on the homepage as having voted for Community Supported Publishing. It’s not as complicated as it sounds, but the site seems a little quirky.

in struggle & solidarity,

Celebrate the bounty of the harvest!
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has helped to make independent, healthy farming sustainable. Now there is Community Supported Publishing (CSP)! By joining the South End Press CSP you ensure a steady crop of books guaranteed to change your world. As a member you receive all the new varieties and choice heirloom selections free each month and a 10% discount on everything else. (That is: every new book we publish while you are a member and selected backlist and bestsellers)

By becoming a CSP member you not only show solidarity with the collective that operates South End Press, but enable us to continue and expand the way we serve and support radical movement. CSP members are crucial to our ongoing operations. It is your regular support that allows us to keep your shelves stocked with important books (even in they aren't on the NYT bestseller list!).

Just as real change comes about from sustained grassroots organizing and people joining together, we know it is the modest support from a broad range of people that will allow South End Press to survive and grow.

It is only with the support of ordinary people on a regular basis that we can continue to struggle. Won't you join the movement today?
