May Day 2008: Historic Port Strike Against the War!
On May 1, 2008, the dockworkers of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) shut down all 29 ports on the West Coast with a strike against the U.S. war in Iraq and Afghanistan. This first ever strike by an American union against a U.S. imperialist war showed the way forward. Against the powerless peace movement that chains opposition to the war to the capitalist Democratic Party, the Internationalist Group fights to mobilize the power of the working class to defeat the U.S. war machine abroad and its attacks on blacks, immigrants, workers and democratic rights "at home" on the road to socialist revolution. Come to a screening of the new Internationalist video on the historic dock strike against the war. This video documentary tells the story of how the strike was made, and discusses the political questions raised by the strike.
