RePower America Rally 3/14; State House
11 Mar 2009
(Emergency) RePower America Rally

Saturday, March 14 3-4 p.m.

Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon St., Boston MA
From Holyoke to Salem to Somerset, nearly 200 Massachusetts residents prevailed against cold, wind, and snow, strengthening a statewide coalition pushing for a rapid phase out of coal and fossil fuels - an urgently-needed remedy to the converging climate and economic crises. Many also went down to Washington DC to join the thousands gathering to take climate action into the streets. There, a small - but important - EARLY SIGN OF SUCCESS was achieved as heads of Congress requested a feasibility study for converting the DC coal plant to natural gas in the next two years.

We will not, of course, stop there. We must eliminate carbon emissions - not just replace coal with less-devastating natural gas at one plant. Still, this capitulation at the Capitol coal plant is a sign of what principled grassroots action can achieve when we force government to listen to the people - not the lobbyists! Check out photos and videos at www.securegreenfuture.org/coal_rallies , www.capitolclimateaction.com to see what the emerging climate justice movement looks like.

Now we must continue to build the momentum. Please join us in an emergency rally to show support for a contested Massachusetts resolution calling for federal legislation to achieve 100% clean electricity in 10 years! - a goal first put forth by former Vice President Al Gore. This will take place at the front steps of the statehouse near Boston Commons on Saturday, March 14th at 3 PM. Bring signs, costumes (if you like) and your resolve to achieve a secure, green future! This rally, sponsored by Mass. Powershift and several collaborators including MCHC, is being called an "Emergency" in the hopes of moving this legislation quickly - while there is still a window of opportunity to prevent catastrophic climate change . The rally notice is pasted below. Hope to see you there!

Thanks!
