Correspondent Spencer Michels reports on the prospects for a modern New Deal to help artists weather the recession. This PBS video was broadcast May 13, 2009.
FDR paid artists when private enterprise crashed. The government must create jobs when corporations speculate with foreign currencies and takeovers. Murals bring joy and public spirit though conservatives criticize artists as useless and revolutionary.
