Yes We Can, Preserving the Bounty of the Harvest
03 Sep 2009
Free workshop in Jamaica Plain makes preserving the harvest easy with tips and recipes for canning food at home.
With anticipation of New England’s short growing season drawing to a close, those who have been bitten by the localvore-bug are in a panic: what will they eat over the winter?! Well, have no fear – the Fresh Girl is coming to town to teach us how to pack the summer’s bounty into those neat glass jars you used to see in your grandma’s pantry.

Ana Micka visits the Jamaica Plain Forum with her new book and accompanying DVD, “The Fresh Girl’s Guide to Easy Canning” to share her tips for top-of-the-line food preservation. Micka will discuss canning supplies, finding the best produce, how to use hot water and pressure canners, and where to get the best canning recipes. She will place a special emphasis on food safety and preparation with the help of her colleague, Julie Ristau.
