Governor Roberto Requião and John "Maddog" Hall opened late on Thursday (22), in Foz do Iguaçu, the 6th Latin American Conference on Free Software-Latinoware 2009. Requião called for an end of the monopoly of technical knowledge and summoned about 4 thousand gathered people to defend open source as a tool for creativity, and to generate alternative employment and income. PARANA - Paraná Recent advances in the area were considered examples of the advantages of the public tools of information. According to the governor Roberto Requião, only at the first years of use of free software, more than $ 450 million were saved from contracts with private systems.

Today we have excellence at free tools and our expectation is that this knowledge invade the academia and spread itself much more, "he said.



For the Brazilian general director of Itaipu, Jorge Samek, the deployment of the Express system, free software used by the government of Parana state, was a real revolution and use of free platforms is transforming the region of Foz do Iguacu in a pole of development of these tools . LatinoWare - Latinoware 2009 is promoted by the Binational Itaipu, Itaipu Technology Park (ITP), Paraná State's Data Processing Company (Celepar) and by the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro). There will be held 184 lectures, round tables and short courses on topics related to information technology and communication systems supported in free software developed on the continent. More than 3.9 thousand people from 10 different countries have registered for the event, which runs until Saturday (24).
