Action for Real Climate Solutions TODAY
30 Nov 2009
Join with others from across New England in converging on Boston to demand that real solutions be implemented.
Monday, November 30th will mark a worldwide day of demonstrations for climate justice. Nine cities across the US will have various actions ranging from protests to street theaters to non violent civil disobedience acts, coordinated by the Mobilization for Climate Justice. Come find out why many of the so-called climate “solutions” on the verge of being passed into law are false solutions designed to profit special interests. Join with others from across New England in converging on Boston to demand that real solutions be implemented. Sign up here to stay updated by email, sponsor, or get information about optional participation in non-violent direct action.

Schedule of Events:

November 30th:

* (8.30am to 11.30pm) Lobby at the State House in support of the Leadership Campaign’s demand to repower Massachusetts with 100% clean electricity by 2020.
* (12.00pm to 1.30pm) Rally and speak-out at Boston City Hall Plaza, targeted at the federal and international level and demanding real climate solutions, climate justice, and exposing false solutions including cap and trade. Check out our line-up of speakers! Bring your signs/banners!
* (1.30pm) Planet dance and march in downtown area to Kerry and Kirk’s office buildings, to deliver our letter calling for climate justice and real climate solutions. Both of them are co-sponsors of the counter-productive Kerry-Boxer climate bill. Bring your favorite costumes of animals or plants (could be a leaf, a tree, a stuffed animal, a picture of flowers… think of what climate change means for them, and speak up for them if you’d like during the march).
* At the end of the march, some may participate in a nonviolent direct action outside Kerry’s office building – We will enact a “die-off” of species by lying down on the sidewalk in our animal/plant costumes, or holding a picture of a species to represent them. This is to call attention to the MASSIVE DIE-OFF of species that is already underway. If we block the sidewalk and refuse to move after police warning, we will be arrested. However, individuals should each make the decision of whether or not to risk arrest for this purpose. Please contact Beth or Maggie (see below) if you plan to participate in this non-violent action, and let us know whether you plan to ignore warning and be arrested in order to bring the issue to a trial to raise its public profile.
