IMF Resistance Consulta April 3rd
23 Mar 2010
Come to the Lucy Parsons Center for an afternoon of consultations,
trainings, and food! Organizers from Washington, DC will be in town to
talk about the Anticapitalathon Games, aka the anti-IMF/World Bank
protests, on April 23 - 25.
The IMF and World Bank are famous for acting as loan sharks for global
capital, forcing poor countries to accept high-interest loans or face
exclusion from the global trade network. IMF policies have driven millions
into poverty, as governments privatize public assets, gut social services
and ruin the environment through industrialization in an attempt to pay
off massive debts. Protests against the IMF/WB were some of the most
significant actions of the anti-globalization era of the early 2000s, as
thousands traveled to DC to stand against neoliberal imperialism.
Resistance in the US and abroad was instrumental in reducing the IMF and WB to a shadow of their former selves, with the WB losing over 98% of its capitalization. Recently, following the global economic collapse, the G20 group of rich nations recapitalized the IMF to the tune of 1.1 trillion dollars to take advantage of desperate countries facing plummeting tax revenues. Resistance to these predatory behemoths must be revived as well.

Toward that end the Self Described Anarchist Collective has called for an Anticapitalathon to protest the IMF/WB spring meetings in DC on April 23 - 25. Two organizers will be in Boston on April 3rd at 2 PM at the Lucy Parsons Center to discuss the protest. Food will be provided. Agenda coming soon.
