Announcement :: DNC
DC DNC organizing: Keeping Boston in the loop
21 Apr 2004
We are letting Boston-area activists know what we are doing in DC and inviting people to get involved with our listserves for DC organizing, especially those of you working on the DNC. With Boston, we still need logistics help, especially finding some sort of makeshift office space where DC-area people can go once we are there in order to check in and mobilize and where we can keep in touch with people out in the field.

We also want to invite Boston organizers to DC (we'll feed you and give you housing) in order to help us figure out the best way to organize. I'm willing to make a trip to Boston (as long as I'm housed) to help out. I am in contact with some of you. However, if you are not in contact with me, please get in touch so we can work on a Boston-Washington partnership now and in the future.

Below is a notice we are just now sending out to the entire Mid-Atlantic region.

****

Want to take a trip to Boston and New York this summer?

Here's your chance to take action protesting the DNC and RNC!

The DC Anti-War Network (DAWN) is mobilizing DC-area people for the July Democratic National Convention in Boston and the August/September Republican National Convention in New York.

We have formed a broad-based coalition of peace and social justice groups to get you there, find you housing, and help you once we are there.

We also plan a summer of action here in DC. One thing we’ve already planned is for William Rivers Pitt, editor of Truthout.org, to headline a conventions-related event.

If you are an individual or group anywhere between Richmond and Baltimore and want to go to Boston or New York, please join our very low volume conventions announcement listserve. To join, send an email to
dc-dnc-rnc-protest-announce-subscribe (at) lists.riseup.net and answer the
confirmation email. To be more involved in the planning process, join the discussion listserve by sending an email to
dc-dnc-rnc-protest-discuss-subscribe (at) lists.riseup.net.

Attend our next DC Conventions Meeting, Thursday, May 6, 7-9 PM (location to be announced), or DAWN meetings every Tuesday night at AFSC, 2211 14th St
NW, 7-9 PM.

The DC DNC-RNC Protest Coalition presently consists of:
DAWN, SOA Watch, Mobilization for Global Justice, Code Pink, Critical Resistance, peace groups at Howard University, Veterans for Peace ch. 016,
and Jews for Peace in Palestine and Israel

For more information, contact DAWN at info (at) dawndc.net, Jim Macdonald at
202-669-5287, or Andy Laken at 202-230-4055.

Re: DC DNC organizing: Keeping Boston in the loop

If you want to come to Boston and support the protests here, posting something on Indymedia is a good start. But the majority of community groups DON'T read this site (perhaps they should, but so it goes). If you really want to be in touch, this is a good first step, but don't feel like you're in touch with the entire Boston scene, or even much of it.
Re: DC DNC organizing: Keeping Boston in the loop

I already am in touch with a number of groups in Boston organizing for the DNC, so this is really a second or third step. This was a shot at some of those groups we haven't already reached who might reach indymedia.

Thanks for the advice.
