Mohawk Nation Statement on Akwesasne Border Crossing for Quebec City Protests
22 Mar 2001
This statement was issued on March 20, 2001 by the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs regarding actions at the International Bridge crossing at Akwesasne for the Quebec City protests.
"In regard to the actions and demonstration reported to be made concerning the International Bridge crossing at Akwesasne, the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs have not been contacted concerning the protest in Quebec City. There is no involvement from the Mohawk Nation and no official demonstration."

The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs is responsible for the social, cultural and political integrity of the Mohawk people... As a full member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, it has a nation-to-nation relationship with the United States via the Treaty of Canandaigua, a very powerful position. (from the MNCC web site).
