Robina Suwol, Founder of CA Safe Schools Nominated for 2010 Jewish Hero Award
by California Safe Schools

The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) celebrates the selflessness and courage of those who put others before themselves.
The second-annual Jewish Community Heroes campaign organized by The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) celebrates the selflessness and courage of those who put others before themselves. This is our community’s opportunity to shine a national spotlight on the unsung, whether their work impacts five people or 5,000. Building on the success of last year’s campaign, in which participants cast over 500,000 votes, this year we will single out a 2010 Jewish Community Hero and several other honorees for going above and beyond: the honorees will be selected by an online nomination and voting process that will establish our 20 semifinalists, and then the judge panel will select our honorees from that semifinalist .

PROFILE –ROBINA SUWOL
For more than a decade Robina Suwol, the founder and Executive Director of California Safe Schools has been making strides to repair the world. Robina is a tireless advocate for health and the environment, especially children. Robina has taken every opportunity to protect the most vulnerable populations. For example, Robina has been one of the most vocal concerning current EPA regulations, which state that threshold standards for chemical exposure are based on 160lb. adult male and opposed Intentional Dosing of Pesticides for Human Experimentation Studies. As more discussions begin on school siting, Robina has testified extensively and commented that to ensure health and safety, that schools should not be built on sites with deed restrictions.

Since founding CSS, Suwol has achieved national and international prominence as an environmental and children's health activist. An articulate and compelling speaker, Suwol gives frequent presentations on school safety to parents, students, school officials and legislators. She has become increasingly sought after for her testimony before legislative bodies and conferences. Suwol serves on several national boards of directors of environmental and health organizations.

In addition, Suwol can be found most weekends volunteering at Health and Safety Fairs, Conferences and community events. Robina is a two time Volvo Award Finalist and the recipient of the Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 - 2007 Environmental Award and the Red Cross Women of Spirit Award, 2007 US Pollution Prevention Champion , Los Angeles County Children's Leading Boldly Children's Award & South Coast Air Quality Management District's Award, and Prevention Magazine Hero. Recently UTNE Magazine named Robina one of the "50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World”, 1st Amendment Beacon Award, and the Carl Gibbs Environmental Award.
