Announcement :: Organizing
Lucy Parsons Center Move Update
by Boston IMC
08 Aug 2011
Dear supporters of the Lucy Parsons Center,
Some of you may have noticed that the Lucy Parsons Center has moved! We have
moved from our old location at 549 Columbus Avenue in the South End to our
new location at 358A Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. We were able to
purchase the new space with money from our dedicated building fund. Not
having to pay rent puts us on a viable financial footing for the first
time in many years.
At our new location, we are still unpacking boxes and generally getting the
store into a condition where it’s ready to open to the public. We are also
in the process of meeting some community social justice groups in Jamaica
Plain to initiate a conversation about how LPC can be a positive presence in
our new neighborhood, particularly with regard to the ongoing gentrification
of Jamaica Plain. As a collective, we have decided that we don’t want to
open the store until we have some meaningful conversations with community
groups and residents and business owners who live near the new LPC location,
and until we host a public forum for people to share ideas for and concerns
about the new LPC location in JP. We have yet to schedule this forum, but we
will be sure to let you know when we do, as we would love for
you to attend!
Right now, it is difficult for us to say when we will open, but probably
sometime in the next few months. As most of you are probably aware, we’re an
all-volunteer collective so it takes us a little while to get stuff done!
We’ll be sure, however, to keep you posted on our progress.
Talk to you soon!
