Indymedia.org is still "CENSORING" all independant postings!

Indymedia.org is still "CENSORING" all independant postings!
Plus Indymedia.org also "eliminated" the search engine on its site where you could access old posts by specific authors and/or specific articles. All the old postings have been completely DELETED!!!

What happened to the Freedom of the Press/Freedom of Speech at Indymedia.org?

Obviously Indymedia.org was pressured by the (U.S.) government to "Censor" any and all posting that might whistle-blow or point the finger at government wrong-doings (all in the name of Nation Security of course!) or othrwise Indymedia.org was taken over by a hard-line Right-Wing group with strong "Pro Israel" ties!

Time to take your medication again. Then maybe the funny voices will go away. Or not.

Hi. I am an active member of the current Boston IMC collective. Our collective agreement is to never fully delete an article, only to hide it when it violates our editorial policy. (linked here: http://boston.indymedia.org/mod/info/display/policy/index.php ) All of our hidden articles can still be viewed at http://boston.indymedia.org/newswire/hidden/index.php . Read it sometime so you can get an idea of the influx of strange garbled gaga, non-news rantings, and straight out advertisements that we are trying to save you all from reading.

However, as tight as our security is, it can theoretically be penetrated by a hacker or an agent . If you have seen your articles completely deleted please report it us immediately by either posting to our email list ( imc-boston (at) lists.indymedia.org ) or by coming down to our meeting on the first Sunday of every month at 7pm, at the Lucy Parsons Center, 549 Columbus Ave. in the South End. Bring your article and any documentation you may have of its deletion, a printout of the page it was originally on would be most helpful.

We at the IMC are entirely against censorship, and only edit our site to make it more useful for the reader. There are many folks out there who seek to inundate our site with their own personal diatribes and rantings, none of which help along the cause of a free and open source media. If you have suggestions as to how we can better handle this problem please feel free to let us know by posting to our email list at imc-boston (at) lists.indymedia.org .

This has come up before, Pete. Hawley isn't talking about us. He/she is talking about the Global site.

Hawley, last time you raised this issue, I suggested that you e-mail the Global Tech team and see what the problem is. If it's not technical, may be they have some good policy reason for it. I do know that the idea is to encourage posting at the local sites, not on the Global site.

In any case, have you e-mailed anyone at Global and asked what's going on? There's not much we can do to help you here. We have enough on our plate with keeping the local site in good shape and don't track the affairs of Global too closely.

Regardless, the US government would have a hell of a time intimidating the Global collective since they're scattered all over the world. Same goes for any right-wing group trying to stage a take over. I suspect you are blowing things out of proportion.

Indy Media did delete my comment. The picture of the Iraqi Prisoners getting tortured. I asked who the two whores were. I went to that article. And low and behold...my comment was deleted.
Freedom of speech my ass!

To: Plaid Baboon! Before they had this so-called "re-organizaton" last year at Indymedia.org there were a lot of postings at that site by a lot of different folks. With this there was a search engine to access old articles and their authors - now all of this has gone! How is this seen as progressive and not suppressive?

Hawley, I have no idea what's going at Global. That's why I keep suggesting that you e-mail them and ask. Posting complaints here isn't to get you any answers.

Kris, I hid your comment because your use of the term "whores" was sexist (and insulting to sex workers) and we have a policy of hiding such stuff. If you'd said the same thing and used some non-sexist term instead of "whores" I would have left it up. This is not some nebulous free speech site. We are a progressive site and therefore we try to maintain a certain atmosphere, including trying to ensure that postings do not perpetuate oppressive practices, such as use of sexist language.

Okay...No more sexist comments.
I'll keep it logical and mature.

ITS NOT HARD TO TEST FREEDOM , TRY WRITING AN ARTICLE SUPPORTING AL QAEDER, THERES LOADS OF PEOPLE WITH SUPPORT FOR THESE FREEDOM FIGHTERS AND HERO'S BUT NO ONE TO SPEAK FOR THEM. FUNNY THAT, A POINT OF VEIW WITH AN AUDIENCE BUT NO VOICE SOUNDS LIKE ONLY AFFIRMATIONS OR DISSENT ARE ALLOWED ON INDY. ITS BETTER THAN POPULAR MEDIA BUT ITS NOT UNVETTED.
