support protestors at the DNC in Boston this summer!!
The Democratic National Convention is coming to Boston July 26 - 29 and
it looks like it will be a pretty intense event. Lots of groups in
Boston are organizing marches, protests and direct action. Lots of
direct action (see http://www.blackteasociety.org/).
So we will need medics!! For general medic organizing, see the new
listserv – email@example.com.
For occasional announcements, you can join firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are working on finding a good wellness center space, and hope to
have it be a true wellness center, offering massage and other body
work, western herbal therapies, and more. We have a dream of setting up
a space where activists can get basic, preventive care and care for
illnesses or problems NOT related to the protests, as well those that
are protest-related. And we want to create an open and supportive medic
community in which we learn and play together, as well as provide care.
Join us! It will be fun!
And the DNC to RNC march will be leaving from here - another great
chance to do good medic work. See http://www.dnc2rnc.org/info on the
Boston Social Forum, July 23-25. See http://www.bostonsocialforum.org/
We'd like to know who is planning to come to Boston and whether you'd
like to be involved in organizing before the protests. We especially
need folks to help with getting everything together in the weeks before
the demonstrations. The BALM Squad is shrinking this summer, because of
folks moving away or traveling for the summer, so we would be thrilled
to have more folks on the ground working on DNC medical organizing.
If you can't come to Boston but would like to provide aftercare in your
community, please send us information about what you can provide. We’ll
try to get that to folks before the leave for home.
Please contact the BALM Squad at email@example.com or
call 1-857-891-1666 (a cell phone). If you'd rather talk on a land line
or send the info in another format, just send an email to the address
above and someone will get in touch with you. Please let us know:
- your contact info
- when you plan to be in the Boston area
- how you can help and what kind(s) of care you can provide
- any ideas you have about medic planning for the DNC protests
We are working on medic-specific housing, but if you want to plan
ahead, housing and rides to and from Boston can be arranged through the
Bl(A)ck Tea Society Web site. They have set up a ride and housing board
through their forums (at http://www.blackteasociety.org/forums), and there is a section for
medic-only housing on the board.
Please feel free to pass this info on to anyone you know who may be
And, in case you are wondering, why protest the DNC? The Republicans
are so much more evil.... see the article “Why
bother to protest the DNC?” at http://blackteasociety.org/calls/why_bother.html
