One day after a devastating defeat for advocates of gay marriage in a North Carolina referendum, where 61 percent of voters supported amending the state’s constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, President Obama made history with his endorsement of same gender marriage. There was much speculation that Vice President Joe Biden’s May 6 statement, that he is "absolutely comfortable" with gay marriage, made on NBC's "Meet the Press," likely played a key role in pressuring Obama to make his headline-grabbing declaration three days later.
