These images were taken this morning at Boston's Government Center, where gay and lesbian couples lined up to apply for marriage license. The mood was calm and celibratory, there was a small police presence and metal barricades. Couples waited patiently in line and endured the media intrusions. Many held roses or hands while they waited for their turn to apply for legal marrige with the clerks.

Booths were set up around the building to direct people to "Information", "Clergy" and "Media". A row of supporters with rainbow flags and congradulatory signs formed a corridor from the entrance, welcoming gays to a longstanding tradition.
