This year, Bikes Not Bombs:

Collected over 5,000 bikes, mostly through the 43 bike drives we held in communities all over Greater Boston, each of them entirely volunteer organized and run. In 2013 we broke a record with most bikes collected at one drive - 407!

Ran 7 sessions of Earn-A-Bike including 2 girls-only sessions and one for youth with learning disabilities in partnership with Boston Public Schools STRIVE program and provided summer jobs to more than 30 graduates of our youth programs.

Shipped 3,789 bicycles to our partners overseas, sent two field workers to support our partners in Guatemala and Ghana and, for the first time, hired an in-country field worker to coordinate the logistics of our Village Health Worker Mobility project in Uganda.

Registered over 500 riders for our annual Bike-A-Thon in June which raised over $170,000 to support our programs.

Thank you to everyone who donated bikes, volunteered on a Thursday night or in a Youth Program, loaded a container, rode in the Bike-A-Thon or in any other way played a part in the success of our programs in 2013. We can't wait to see what 2014 will bring! BNB will be Loading Bikes to Village Bicycle Project in Ghana on Sunday, December 8th at 10am. Bikes Not Bombs has partnered with Village Bicycle Project [10] for more than ten years, sending shipments of bicycles to support their programming in rural villages in northwestern Ghana. Village Bicycle Project reaches some of the most rural areas of Ghana by setting up one-day workshops where participants can buy a subsidized bicycle and learn basic bike maintenance skills. This programming helps offer an affordable mode of transportation for rural people, helping them improve their access to basic resources such as education, health care, jobs and markets.
