Cabaret Discord is a monthly event organized by John of The Black Freighter. Each event will feature four musical acts (a "draw", two different, newer, or under-appreciated acts, and The Black Freighter), AT LEAST one, preferably two non-band acts (performance art, workshops, short film showings, sideshow stuff, spoken word...), spotlight on a local artist (we'll put some of their paintings, sculptures, whatever around the space...), an INTERACTIVE event ("everyone brings a mix tape for trading" at one show, "vegan recipe contest" at one show, "sign up and you can DJ for five minutes" at one show, "Dada poem recital corner" at one show...), a free box (bring your old crap and throw it in, look through all the other old crap and discover treasure!), vegan potluck, and a free program with info about all the night's projects, the collective's next event, and whatever else I deem exciting and interesting. Each event is also a partial benefit for a worthy organization or some sort.

What does Cabaret Discord hope to achieve?

I hope to create a cross-clique DIY environment that fosters and encourages creativity, communication and forward-thinkingness. That and I want to throw some bitchin' parties.

How do I get involved?

Do you do some sort of art? Music? Workshops? Anything you think I might want to put on? Know an organization we should do a benefit for? Let us know! Or you could just bring something for the potluck or free box, or participate in the interactive event. Be a part of it, dammit! Also, each event requires two extra volunteers, both of whom are thanked with a plus-one for the event.

what the fuck will shirts do, you say?
at our dem convention, there was no time for debate, they actively discouraged it. i'm sure the national convention will be even worse, nothing but stupid irrelevant speeches and bureaucratic bullshit... and the freakin sheeple were told not to talk... just stick with your man.

I left wishing i had shirts instead of flyers, a non-confrontational way to educate people while standing in line, an icebreaker too ;-)

lots to choose from, if you're into it and feel i'm missing something, i'm open to suggestions ;-)
