MIT Sit-in Ends after 116 Days
04 Mar 2016
End of an era. Today, after 116 days, we announce the end of our ‪#‎ScientistsSitIn‬ for MIT divestment, and a joint-agreement with MIT's administration. The Boston Globe has the story.
No, MIT is not yet willing to divest. We continue to believe this is a crucial missing step, but we’re working with what we’ve got. This agreement is about not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good; adding accountability to MIT's plan of engagement with fossil fuel companies. And we're excited that this agreement insures the ethics of climate change will now be front and center at MIT, and that we have moved the Institute to aspire to carbon neutrality.

Change always happens too slowly at first, but nevertheless, this agreement is a reminder that social movements work.

Thank you to the 150+ indefatigable folks who have sat-in with us over the past four months. Thank you to the MIT administration for continuing to engage in us with difficult dialogue. And thank you to everyone around the world who has buoyed us with your messages of solidarity and strength.
