This week's show features stories from NHK World Radio Japan, Radio Deutsche-Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and Spanish National Radio.

From JAPAN- Tokyo Electric Power Company has finally decided to scrap all 10 nuclear reactors at Fukushima, 8 years after the devastating meltdown- it is expected to take 40 years to decommission them. Japan has 45 tons of Plutonium stockpiled, with 9 tons on the island with the rest in Britain and France. Protests over an extradition bill continued in Hong Kong, causing major subway disruptions and increased violence. Iran held a meeting in Vienna with co-signers last Sunday to try and salvage the 2015 nuclear deal that the US abruptly withdrew from. Mike Pompeo has been pushing other countries to create a naval force in the Strait of Hormuz to protect oil tankers from Iranian attack- most US allies are more concerned with easing tensions with Iran.

From GERMANY- Germany is rejecting the request to join the international naval mission in the Gulf, saying they will not sleepwalk into a bigger crisis. The new British government wants to create a European led mission with US support.

From CUBA- Cuban President Diaz-Canel urged the Sao Paulo Forum to confront US imperialism in Venezuela. The Cuban Foreign Minister called on the international community to stop the US government interfering with the people and government of Cuba. Thousands marched in Venezuela to defend the nation's right to peace and sovereignty, and called for the release of former Brazilian President Lula da Silva. The Guatemalan human rights prosecutor filed an appeal to curb the so-called safe third country asylum deal their president signed with the US. Brazilian President Bolsonaro threatened the freedom of journalist Glenn Greenwald.

From SPAIN- Alison Hughes has returned with a Spanish press review covering attempts to form a coalition government in Spain, the fate of the Catalonian leaders, and the political strength of women in parliament. Omar Shakir, the director of Human Rights Watch for Israel and Palestine, is awaiting an Israeli supreme court decision on his deportation.
