One way of looking at it, consider limiting all perspectives to just a binary one, say two world views, one that favors passive acceptance, consumption, and such. The other critical even of that they value, respect, etc. Maybe the former could be made up of corporate media supporters, actively in terms of subscriptions, buying such media, passive in assuming the spectrum of 'debate' is all there is. The other supportive of various forms of independent media. For a few minutes the world didn't look flat...Other world leakage into 'cable ready public service' |
This is an
Active
Citizenry,
reverse "pop-up" of sorts, not from some "profit over
people"
entinity but from a lesser "Threat of a [www.goodexample]", that is, relative to
CodePink Women for Peace.
Some what conceived as a result of seeing the 26 June 2004 "Green Party"
convention from something other than IndyMedia or any number of a breath
of independent media, some who uncritically mention corporate media and
some that in no way do.
"If the left means anything, it means its concerned for the needs,
welfare, and rights of the general population. So the left ought to be
the overwhelming majority of the population, and in some respects I
think it is." --Noam Chomsky
It's also a challenge to Senator Kerry to recognize that it migth be a matter of
Hegemony or Survival: (see the book by the same name preferably
from an independent book publisher (South End Press, Common Courage
Press, etc.) so would he consider having the statement given by CodePink
founder at the "Green (not corporate party or third party)
representative of what he might have said of the current period in the
spirit of what he said in the Winter Soldier days.
It ought not be much of a surprise to get a glimpse of reality from a
source other than a corporate media network
ad but just the same if you experience something from a 'CommunityCaste "cable" company,
and in particular from something created by a group of them with a
familar sounding ring (see David Barsamian's book on the Rise and Fall
of...)... -public service created by the
American cable television industry - then that ought to be taken into
consideration. Fine you're seeing a bit of what in fact exists
worldwide, and you may know the significance of February 15, 2003 ( I
won't insult the 'audience' as David Cobb might have!) in terms
of a global scale, unpreceented, like the protests (and other
complementary actions from people not 'there') before the invasion of Iraq,
unlike Vietnam that took years after bombings and other acts of...what
was it that was being brought?
When Micheal Parenti was on
the same unsaid public interest network. During the
interview the host said whenever someone like you is on we hear 'hey
what about Howard Zinn...' Much the same could be said of all the groups
and individuals that were in plain view during one of the D.C. actions -
they would have been staples to anyone who doesn't soley support
corproate media butr why doesn't this public interest mention more of
them? How long did it take that wonderful radio network (when they
reflect about themselves - 'NRP) to
mention Military Families Speak Out other than within the ifirst year
after invasion maybe only at "the top of the news hour". Likewise for
'Depleted' Uranium and much else of the type, 'wait wait don't tell us'
- like their game show.
A sidenote: www.gp.org does haves references to GNN (wonder if forced
to change old domain name they had), UJP, Global Exchange, IndyMedia,
etc.
byt not to FSRN, Flashpoints, and much else too.
Hopefully nobody will be 'forced' to change from "no charge" (it's not
free if you have to submit personal information or endure pop-ups and
such) to so-called better service inorder to recover from loss of
pop/smtp service.
Though www.goodexample.info is currently only a Z Magazine, Znet
supporter in terms of the the occasional issue at Lucy Parsons Center in
Boston, etc. and in two senses of outreach, what others can do as
members of the
'community of people committed to social change' I sometimes use "Send
Znet article' to a Friend" to also utilize the form to include mail
message when in a library
that doesn't offer pop/smtp ability to access your mail. Maybe if
monetary support increased Znet could keep links to Z Magzines artilces
available longer and "open" up all, no member" only areas. It's up to
you.
One of the references in Hats off to Martin Voelker suffered from this
limitation, the article is no longer available.
Not trying to be a freerider, want to make available to everyone, and
will try to reach a threshold of support donations (Affero?) if they are
interested.
An excerpt (see Hats off for source) from The New Crisis in Democracy:
One of the main reasons I go to give lots of talks is that it brings
together people from that town or city or region who are working along
pretty similar lines, or at least parallel lines, and dont have much to
do with each other. If you just take Boston, there are lots and lots of
groups. But they barely know about each other. The total level of
participation is probably quite substantial. On the other hand, the
degree of integration is slight and the degree of involvement varies.
That means theres not much in the way of long-term thinking or planning
or strategy.
Seems apt:
War Talk
by Arundhati Roy.
Maine IMC: "Arrest, felony
charges for protester at Boston military recruiter" disappointing
that Not in Our Name mentions this but refers to something other than
media that's even close to independent of consumption. Be
critical of independent media too.

David Cobb was (www.votecobb.org talking about
corporate media but referring to 'whowho on website. Though glad phone number
was also given during "convention" as well as website information.
Iraq Body Count when ever

Water Wars, in its

When David Cobb described why he had to be "Green" and called on

who don't vote but imagine if what they do each and every day
translated into peaceful action (Peave Action) in a pursuit of common
disinterest.

What
form of 'public radio' to you support?? When DN! and FSRN, more
evident a change in the former whereas before they were exemplar in
citing their own network of reporters and IndyMedia and much more now
uncritically refer to corporate media. Do they do so in hopes that they will
in turn refer to them? One might doubt so. |

references to the 'sunday mourning unconscious civilization shows;

This is not news; neither are virtually constant weather reports, sport
team sales, movie reviews, etc. Nor does this even fit into the breath
allowed by international coverage of life, politics and protest
as once served as a posting delimiter in IndyGlobal.
I don't think he'll miss those 'France is Next" bumphead stickers that
are still around Medford. Maybe he gave up on waiting for more than a
few handful of those 'Thanks for Enduring the (T)' hybrid busses.
I would usually check to make sure there wasn't already a recent Newswire
posting related to Martin but....he's worth duplicating.
Hats off to Martin at least
times.
Though what follows was shared via e-mail to those noted I include it
here as sort of
an example of one-to-many feedback & comments which at some point
will primarily be intented to
facilitate for those so
inclined to go beyond one-to-none (no acknowlegement, etc.) commenting
on so-called public radio, and their ought to be plenty to do so, for
instance when they say how wonderful
they are especially during 'just send us $300.00'- I suspect they value
the few over the many at these sorts of
support requests- how they represent the community, those corporate
underwriters aren't really there, etc. and a way to
respond to anyone saying how "nobody" cares where fossil fuel comes
from, or that people only
care about the 'price at the pumps' not the price at the cementary FSRN News Headline &
Segment text/audio archive
if I recall it was here that it was suggested
that if the
U.S. "defense" prepared for offense if the euphemism in reverse might
actualy allow it to prepare for its defense,
and to be critical of that which one might value but still wish to offer
feedback;
in this case uncritical source references to corporate media during FSRN
News Headlines and
segments which is far more (or used to be) out of the ordinary than say
DN! The (T)hanks for enduring US transit
in Boston and its nicely decorated trains with beer displays;
does the T give back anything to community space for its use of such
space?
It was refreshing to hear Martin rebroadcast the AR's
History Matters (You Can't be
Neutral...http://www.coolidge.org/s_events.html, dated but)
The title is fitting for a friend who thought, or thinks I'm out from of
space because I think it does matter. I'll leave that and recount a
history professor at NSCC who I believe Professor Howard Zinn was
involved with his dissertation. The jist of it was after someone, a
graduate in early childhood who though I was glad she mentioned Howard
Zinn in class was not familar with much of the media available as noted
by AirwaveWEB. The professor went on to suggest that people like Howard
Zinn aren't qualified to write about "good wars" or any kind of them since
they weren't in any. I quickly injected that he was a bombadeer and
didn't get to saying how this experience certainly effected his later
historical perspective from as Noam Chomsky might say from the point of
view of the person with the boot on thier neck. But I was told this is
not the case, I know it is. History doesn't repeat but it does get
trampled upon.
Some quick comments Deepa Fernandes, FSRN producer:
I will later direct a more explicit note regarding my perceptions that
something has drastically changed at
FSRN whereby now there's uncritical references being made to
corporate
media as sources within news segments. Prior to this I couldn't
say enough about
the mix of sources which in addition to the FSRN network of reporters
included,
IMC sources, and many others that consistently appeared.
What became of the FSRN opening that you had that noted the 'over
fifty community radio stations - certainly thought it was more apt
and
more reflective of the various local<->global interpentable nature
of
each FSRN broadcast. It's no big deal but the citing of the FSRN
archive
seems to be quite random in its placement and some times is left out.
And
most everyone knows how to spell ".ORG"!
I'm glad to see the repeating of segment snippets at the beginning of
program
introduction appears to have been dropped. The way you usually do
it is fine.
I have been meaning to ask Stop the War Coalition to
include you
in the fine list of link references: http://www.stopwar.org.uk/links.asp.
Also at some point I will arrange www.goodexample.info/samples.html
so that it is a sort of organized like play spaces in a early
childhood
classroom; even though there's separate areas such as sand and sensory,
blocks,
dramatic, writing, drawing, etc. development of social, emotional and
much
more occurs across the areas, or as is probably more clearly described
as
"Books in the Sand Box? Markers in the blocks?" Moving
beyond a simple
expanded form of some of the many references FSRN always mentions I hope
to have a breakdown of specific areas, toxic and chemical related,
protests,
"free speech" zone infringements, etc. some form that shows the
interconnectedness
but organized even more than what "The Threat of a [www.goodexample.info]"
now offers, and the FSRN understandably sequential archive,
as fine as it
is of individual shows allows might be able to be complemented by such a
form. Also the ability to search text from within audio
files might be of
use but I never heard back from ...(I have his name elsewhere but I
appreciate
the acceptance of my thoughts on allowing the archive to be more easily
connected
to "back" and "forward
"(Return to
FSRN's news archive or FSRN's
home page.), and as much
as
I refrain generally from citing the News'dire there ability to go from
one
show segment to the other is quite handy (not that I am spending anytime
there!)
Since I am beginning to ramble as all to often happens I'll end by
saying
when I once attempted the above to allow children the opportunity "draw
in
the block area", label their buildings, write in dramatic area,
another teacher
asked, "who put these markers here!".
A snip from (www.goodexample.info/airwavewebflyer.html)
- AirwaveWEB making
more of the letters I prefer...) I plan to make it more universal,
globally
usable such that it would refer to FSRN's '"where to listen in your
areas
stations" and the same for others programs that have this, call
attention
to the need to support you all by purchasing and sharing with others
what's
available from you, and when you make transcripts accessible as you do
then
more of us could show our appreciation by Aferro (www.affero.net) and others
who I have been trying to get a click and support, or Community
Windows
(www.goodexample.info/interweb.html).
I "wish" ZNet would refrain from having a closed segment of their site
by
somehow asking the community of support to make some target monetary
goal
such that they could make this available in addition to the wealth of
information
they already have; (there's is not the place to discuss Z but I
can't figure
why they and all too many others appear to uncritically accept
"low wage"
workers as a category without mentioning the underlying reason why one
might
be inclined to describe someone or even more extensively when a
community
or even a country is described as "poor"; why do they still refer to
'alternative
media" I thought well beyond shows such as yours and many others not
being
an alternative but the norm as distinct from corporate media.

For an example as to what the threat of a

Not surprising no acknowledgement:
I once contacted imc-boston-office@'some-corporate-lego.com when it was
something other than imc...@indymedia.org, etc. via imc-boston-office at
goodexample.info (yea to show it actually worked) not for self-promotion
purposes as one migth suspect. The Threat of G E website other than a
bit of commentary is mostly references to other threat of
goodexamples.info so any self-promotion is really to them all.
One point of G E (not the ones who bring great profits to shareholders)
is being to mind the gap between individuals and organizations
and independent media (ones that don't uncritically refer to corporate
media) that rightly maintain their autonomy when they could still do so
by stengthening connections and resources (Boston Councilor Chuck Turner
articulated this point during an event that might have been recorded by
www.freemanz.com).

The context was: I didn't think 'NetZed would be so careless to allow someone to access their listserv. I attempted to add some comments about not being swayed to join due the 'loss' of pop/smtp as of June 2004 in a marketing attempt to get some of us who are still looking for an ISP that's underwritten by peace and justice but like waiting for no commercial radio to stop plugging 'ola, 'whowho and such while not being able to mention the cost of an ActIndy event, or a public interest phone network, etc. mightr be a wait. Seen anyone advertsizing for private water lately. If you missed them then corpate campus, you know the ones with corprate ties, partnerships, you bound to see people only to willing to prefer it over the tap. To each no own. |
