Emphasis on 'leaders' plays into government hands
21 Apr 2001
Equality is strength - No Leaders!
I've been reading a lot about Jaggi Singh's arrest by government spies on A20. I think it's a mistake to concentrate on one member of the protest and create this idea that his contributions are somehow worth more than those other protesters who have been arrested. Everyone's contribution is equally valuable, and concentrating on perceived 'leaders' of the movement only serves to further the state's cause. If we start seeing folks like Jaggi Singh as 'leaders', we will soon look to these people to actually lead the movement. Once we have leaders, our strength goes away, since government then has individual targets whose detention serves to demoralise us.

No leaders! Everyone's contribution is equally valuable. Our equality is our strength!
