DNC Starts On The 26th, not the 25th.
06 Jul 2004
how can you march on something before it starts? I guess that is what happens when you try to walk a line between protest and support. Weak dude, weak.

why don't you tack on some of your old slogans about defending the tiananmen square massacre and slobodan milosevic? check out workers.org for more on the stalinist fringe group that created answer and iac as fronts.

I don't really see how you guys think "U.S. Hands Off Korea" is going to be a line that appeals to a mainstream, if that's what having a front group is about.

Oh, great. Go to an ANSWER/WWP/M4M/etc event to march on event that isn't even happening yet, to put out an agenda supporting the butchers of Tiananmen and Solobodan Milosevic, and while you're there get pushed around and handed over to the cops by the fucking ANSWER peace police with the orange vests.

Awesome. I'll definitely be up for that .... NOT.

Well if that's not a slap in the face to the Black Tea Society, the Boston Social Forum, the People's Parties, and all the other people who have done months of work organizing around the DNC, than I don't know what is!

To come in, unannounced at the last minute, with no commincation to any local groups whatsoever, and declare a "national march"... the fucking arrogance of these people!

Maybe this would be a good time to reward ANSWER for crashing the night-after-bombing-started direct action march last spring with their sound system and doing their best to drive people away by delivering speeches about how it was Russia 1917 all over again?

* $$ for a Stalinist war machine, NOT the Pentagon War Machine!
* Stop Unionbusting - that's our job!
* Stop the Attacks on Undocumented Workers. we need to document every worker, then attack them.
* Equal opportunity Detentions, Roundups & Deportations!
* Free Mumia Abu Jamal, Leonard Peltier & All Political Prisoners! We must enslave the people on our own terms!
* Stand for authoritarianism at Home and Abroad!
* Defend Women’s Right to Choose between one party and itself!
* Defend Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, only the totalitarian regime of our choosing should be able to take them away from us.

JUST KIDDING.

I am definitely no fan of ANSWER/Workers World, but this is not the first announcement of this march--they've had it in the works and been announcing it for months. Certainly, they are open to criticism on many things, but let's get our criticisms right. (That said, the fact that they are having their own march separate from everyone else is a symptom of their usual inability to work with other groups democratically.)

As for having the march on the Sunday before the DNC--my understanding is that they couldn't get a permit for during the DNC. Yes, that's right, ANSWER, which always sticks to legal marches, couldn't get a permit for during the DNC, while the direct actionists of the Black Tea Society can. The Black Tea Society was able to do this (as I understand it--I'm going on second hand information here) because they were working with the National Lawyers Guild--which shows the benefits of being able to work with other groups.

Info about the marches referenced by muskrat.

INTO THE STREETS!

The week of July 26 to 29 is the week of the Democratic National Convention. In order to ensure our voices are heard, two separate days of marches are currently planned. These events are to be opening and closing events for the protests against the DNC.

If your organization would like to participate in these coalition marches either as a group or to speak/perform on the stages, please contact us. We still have room for additional speakers/musicians at the rallies and would like to have as much diversity in speakers and performers as possible.

On Monday, July 26 we will kick off convention week demanding an “End to all Police Brutality, Prison Abuses, and the Patriot Act” with a rally on Boston Common, a march to the Fleet Center, and eventually to Government Center. Let’s make it clear that we do not accept the continued erosion of civil rights and the further militarization of the police force.

On Thursday, July 29, we will march to demand "No Blood For Oil- End All Occupations": an end to the Iraqi occupation and the return of the troops. We will begin at Copley Square, and again march to the Fleet Center, and then to Boston Common for the final rally. Let’s make our message clear that the continuation of this war is unacceptable- under either party.

Bring your signs, banners, flags, puppets, and, above all, your spirit of dissent!
