16 Jul 2004
The Prometheus Radio Project is going on tour in late July/early August, to get folks revved up for our Radio Barnraising in September! Subject: Prometheus Radio Project Coming to Your

(please read this message to learn how YOU CAN HELP
the next amazing community radio station come to life
in style and solidarity! and forward widely. we need
your help to make this tour a success!)

Dear Friends in New England:
Greetings from the Prometheus Radio Project! We are
planning a roadtrip across New England in late
July/early August, and we hope to hook up with any
interested community radio supporters and low power
radio applicants during the our visits to the region.
We have great news to bring -- about our historic
victory against the FCC's ill conceived-rules that
would have allowed massive ownership consolidation!
We will visit as many of you as we can manage,
bringing tips about equipment, fundraising,
programming, the licensing process and so on. Can you
help us, by holding a simple workshop in your local
coffeeshop, school, rock club, basement, or
campground? Read on, and email us at
petri (at)

We will also bring news of the Great Radio
Barnraising in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, when we
hope you'll be able to come join us and help put up
the new radio station of the Seacoast Arts and
Cultural Alliance. The radio barnraising is where we
gather everyone from the New England Region who wants
to learn radio skills and we all build a station from
scratch over the course of a weekend this autumn.
These events not only build radio stations, but build
solidarity among the new groups who will be running

If you'd like to host a visit from Prometheus to your
town, here below are the details for the trip. Hope
to see you then!

WHO: The crew for this tour will be Pete Tridish from
Prometheus to talk about low power radio and media
issues, and on some stops a member a member of Radio
WSCA Portsmouth to talk about what they hope to do
with their new radio station.

WHAT: New England tour to meet with any and all
interested community radio supporters and low power
radio applicants. We can answer your questions about
equipment, fundraising, programming the licensing
process and so on. We can also look over your
application and check your status, evaluate your
station sites, and generally get your group revved up
for the work ahead. We are also happy to speak
publicly in classes, libraries, coffee shops, living
rooms or anywhere to talk about the movement for a
more democratic media, upcoming campaigns and events,
and hold strategy sessions on the next steps to win
more low power radio licenses over the long haul. The
fight against the corporations that own the media is
heating up and we want to spread the word about the
many strategies that we are using to fight the media
moguls, and invite your community to plug in to the

Depending on what you need, we can often stay for up
to a day, and while we are in town you can schedule
us for as many things as you like. A typical day in a
Prometheus visit might involve a site visit to the
studio and transmitter sites, a public talk about the
movement for low power radio, a session at a local
college about our recent media consolidation battles,
a station meeting with the people who want to be
involved with the new station, and late night
brainstorming with the core 4 or five people from the
new radio station discussing timelines, budgets,
radio principles, suppliers and political strategies.

WHAT WE NEED: Almost of Prometheus Radio Project's
services are free. When we travel, we ask that you
find us a place to sleep on if we are staying the
night in town, and we often pass the hat for
donations if we speak at a public event. We sell
books and tee shirts and will gladly accept
tax-deductible donations to keep us going... If your
organization is a school or other institutional
setting, and we are giving a lecture or teaching a
class, we ask for an honorarium if possible to
support our work. There will be one or two of us,
depending on what point of the trip we schedule our
visit. If you have a construction permit, and you
want us to actually do work on your station while we
are there, let us know.

WHO TO CONTACT: If you'd like us to stop at your town
and you are interested in organizing events, please
write back as soon as possible to
petri (at) -- or call
215-727-9620/215-605-9297. Sorry for the short lead
time- hopefully we'll see you in about two weeks!

Look forward to visiting!
