Commentary :: DNC
Abu Ghraib in Boston?
23 Jul 2004
Modified: 11:39:54 AM
Now that US US District Judge Douglas P. Woodlock has ruled in favor of the fenced-in free speech zone near the Fleet Center, let's turn it into an exhibit of the justice system in the US - Abu Ghraib in Boston.
Imagine 1000 people in black hoods, and orange paper jumpsuits crowded behind the props so thoughtfully put there by Boston authorities, and validated, courtesy the US District Court.

Great idea. The cops, the Mayor, and the media spinmeisters over at the DNC would freak, so every camera crew in town for the charade at the Fleet Center would cruise by to shoot that kind of dramatic photo op. And it would be nice to turn the tables back on the authorities, and stick it to them.

The thing that makes this interesting is that protesters could come to Boston's own Abu Ghraib, courtesy of the Mayor and the DNC, and then exit to participate in other livlier actions about town. And just one photo of this scene on the international wires would drive the DNC honchos berserk. Let's do it.

And it would communicate in no uncertain terms what we think about this protest pen.
You are all crazy

no one is going to see you
penned up in there. their is
already a call for an all
out refusal. Second only to
showing up, not entering the
fascist cages is the most
important thing we have to do
during the convention.

i like the idea. but is has to be organized on the ground, not over the net. perhaps this will be one of those instances of 'if you post it, they will come,' but somebody has to get into specifics about when and how many we can realistically get.
