On closer examination, I was mistaken. There is no razor wire in the FSZ. Sorry. |

I certainly hope that nobody uses "the cage" that has been set up. All protesters must get as close as they can to the "hard zone" in order to be recognized. Your message must but be loud and clear. This is your chance to be heard, be strong and move foward. |

Obviously, the fencing completely defeats the entire concept of free speech and is a total violation of the First Amendment. How vulgar! |

Call them what they are: Repression Zones, Protest Pens, etc. |

Hey - if you feel strongly about this, I'd suggest emailing www.buzzflash.com and www.truthout.org - and the convention itself - and demand that Kerry and the DNC do something to address this. I'd like to vote Kerry, but this really bothers me (I voted Nader in 2000). Can you imagine Kerry confronting this type of apparatus as a protester in his youth? So much for "pro-democracy / anti-hypocracy" as touted on www.buzzflash.com
At least, www.guerrillanews.com and links from www.nologo.org offer some coverage of this. I'm about as far away from Boston as you can get, but I've already written Truthout urging them to use their forum and platform at the Convention to deal with this issue. The article http://www.guerrillanews.com/government/doc4915.html - excerpted from Democracy Now! -
goes into more detail about this situation.
Kerry's got my vote, most likely, if he addresses this blight immediately.

Is this concentration camp all over again for those who are a threat to the system? This is becoming a police state and this proves where we are headed. |

This is as facist as it gets, if this is what this government thinks of "Free Speech" then we are no longer any kind of constitutional republic but more the dictatorship the GW gas clearly stated he would "prefer." God save us all. |

That is just creepy. I propose some active types in Boston go in the cage and recreate scenes from Abu-Graib (sp?)... that is bound to catch the media's attention and perhaps prove a point if some of the participants are arrested for assualt. |

I wonder what they are going to do when people start dying in these FSZs (prisons) after being trampled by a panicked crowd from lack of enough exits. I wonder if they've allowed for medical evacuations of sick people and those overcome by teargas and the like. I wonder where America went and when the Nazis really took over. |

...that's it, we finally got what democracy and freedom really mean for the ruling class.....
...Work hard and longer, get paid less, increase your personal debt, decrease your rights, and in case you want to express your opinion well, get in the cage and speak we are not going to listen to you anyway is just to make you feel you are free meanwhile we go ahead with the usual businness: wars, etc. |

Fortunately I live in a former dictatorship (Peru-South America), and there are no limitations on people's free speech here... The US has gone totally mad!
How much more can the puppeteers cut away from people's basic rights before the people RISE UP AND SLAY THE MONSTER??
I was born and raised in the world's oldest continuing democracy (Iceland), and I know freedom when I see it... what I see happening in the US is NOT anything that can or should be called "freedom".

These so-called free speech zones are appalling. Shame on the democrats for sponsoring such degradation. It just goes to show what this party is all about these days. I see that this obscenity was not in the least bit mentioned or shown on any of the non-stop ubiquitous major network news coverage of the convention last night. The only way to be heard is @ those $10,000 a plate dinners. Godspeed to the protestors in Boston and then it's on to New York for the real showdown. |

I personally feel that we were given the freedom of speech to say what we had to say, wherever it needed to be said, not to be put in a cage to say it. Whoever does decide to participate should just go ahead and give up there rights. I mean this is insane!!! |

Bill of Rights
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
written in plain simple grammar school english.
Do these self-important grandstanding self-aggrandizing even know about the bill of rights; it certainly seems as though they either have not read it or have extremely poor comprehension skills. If this is the DNC who knows what the RNC will do. These are the people who hate freedom and try to take away our birthrights. |

Consider the source. Kerry and Bush are both politicians. Bottom line, whether you vote Democrat or Republican, you will get the same "service" no matter who wins.
If any of you don't think Kerry knows about "THE CAGE"...think again..he knows darn well it's there and just what it is for.
I agree with those that say Protest in an area where you will be seen, that is the only way you will be heard. |

The free speech zone looks like a silencing pit. It is too bad that the poor and common are put behind chain link fences like animals while the corrupt politicians are in luxurious surroundings.
Maybe someone should pray that the automobiles in the free speech zone belonging to mass media be set ablaze so that free speech can be taken above ground.
Know your enemy in the seats of power in the USA. Some factions are deeply intertwined with the mafia and they are robbing America blind. This government is not ours and they do not obey laws to ensure us safety and open speech to the masses.
Since we can not vote or enter governent meetings in many states of the USA we are honoring as martyrs suicide bombers and kidnappers who limit their actitivies to those true criminals in the higher echelons of the Democrat/Republican regime, their highest and most corrupt and abusive bureaucrats, and their mafia associates.
