Just What Is Boston's Camp X-Ray For?
26 Jul 2004
Stay away from the "Free Speech" zone.
Now, why would anyone choose to hide protesters where absolutely no one could see them and in conditions that are unsafe? It seems reasonable to suspect that a slaughter is planned. The judge has decided that the state can kill 1000 of us rather than 4000. Who will be stupid enough to volunteer to enter the cage?

Not me.

Well, maybe to alert the rest of the world - those who haven't been following Boston IMC and still rely on the corporate media for the sanitized crap tjat passes as news - to discover just what has happened to dissent in the US.

Right now, the corporate press are describing events in Boston as predictable and visable protest far below what was expected, - this after the first march bast the Fleet Center. Trying to stage an guerilla theater event like turning this absymal protest pen into a facimile of Abu Ghraib or Camp X Ray drawing the parallels might just work in breaking through the media blockade. But then again, it might not. Nor is it likely that the decentralized direct actions planned for later in the week will necessarily garner additional corporate press coverage, if the corporate press decides to bury them. But both are worth trying.

As for potential violence - the cops have sufficent strenght to bust up whatever actions they choose to by force, and arrest thousands. In reality, the visable 'Really Really Democratic Bazaar' in Boston Commons' is no safer from police attack than anywhere else...if the cops choose. The First Amendment is no more applicable in Boston than it was in Miami. Just ask Seeds for Peace or those folks in Boston who have recently been harrassed - ala the Miami Model -- before the festivities begin.

Still, staying out of this pen makes sense if you aren't willing to take the risk to make this particular point in this fashion.

It's not Camp X-Ray - it's Camp DNC.

I think the purpose of it is to criminalize all the protesters who refuse to go inside of it. That way, they can designate all non-free-speech-zone demos as "unlawful assemblages", and haul everyone off to jail. It is a tool of police-state repression.

Fuck the state!

A lot of talk on these sites...very little action (dirext or indirect) being seen

We're out here on the West Coast, on the outside. You're in there for us. Do something.

Camp X-Ray sounds like an excellent idea. Go for it! I laughed out loud when I heard it. We're out here rooting for you. We don't care about large numbers or great 'corpy' coverage. All you need is right here on Indymedia and it will go all over the world.

You're making history.

It's to keep the local Starbucks' from having to replace their windows.
