This Saturday Mass Earth First! is holding another event in a series of ongoing actions in defense of the largest remaining stand of old-growth forest in the state. |
On Saturday, August 26, from Noon to 4pm starting at the DEM Visitor's Center, Mass Earth First will be holding a drumming circle as part of its ongoing effort to defend the buffer zone to the largest stand of old-growth forest in the state from a private ski area expansion.
Indy readers may recall that Wachusett Mountain Associates (WMA), a privately owned company run by the wealthy and well connected Crowley family, wants to expand its lucrative operation into a critical buffer zone protecting the trees from prevailing winter winds. As the legal battle to stop WMA's ill-conceived project continues in the courts, Mass Earth first! continues its direct actions on the ground at Mt. Wachusett. They have called on all concerned citizens of the Commonwealth and beyond to step forward and demand that this unique stand of old-growth AND IT'S BUFFER ZONE be protected for its own worth and for the appreciation of future generations.
Mass EF! has opened the Henry David Thoreau Memorial Base Camp nearby and stands ready to defend the forest if the legal battle fails.
