A concert by local political rockers The Reagan Babies was shut down by organizers at Project Bread's Walk For Hunger in Boston on Sunday, May 6th, due to the bands' onstage comments about corporate sponsor Raytheon's history of selling illegal weapons of mass destruction to the United States government for use on civilian targets in Yugoslavia and the Middle East.

> In a stunning display of corporate influence, a
>concert by Merrimac valley guerilla rock-n-rollers The Reagan
>>Babies was cut short by event organizers for Project Bread's Walk
>>For Hunger on this past Sunday, May 6th.
>> The group had been warned several times that their
>>comments about the Raytheon Corporation, one of the event's
>>sponsors, were neither appreciated or welcome and that they would
>>be asked to leave if band members continued to comment on the
>>weapons manufacturer's history of sales of illegal weapons of mass
>>destruction to the United States government for use on civilian
>>targets in Yugoslavia and the Middle East.
>> As the group continued to expound upon the irony of
>>Raytheon's participation in such a seemingly humanitarian event,
>>officials running the show began to show their true allegiances
>>and, while the group were in the midst of singing, "This must be
>>1984, 1984!", volunteers in Walk For Hunger t-shirts could be seen
>>frantically unplugging power outlets and cables in a desperate
>>attempt to silence the dissenting band. When the correct power
>>lines were finally disconnected, band members began to pass around
>>a megaphone and sing one final rousing rendition of "raytheon,
>>raytheon, raytheon...merchants of genocide!" to bypassing walkers.
>> When reached for comment, vocalist/guitarist Randy
>>Viscio stated "It was a good thing that they shut us off, cuz we
>> The Reagan Babies are certainly no strangers to
>>controversy-this episode occurs only weeks after the band were
>>publicly chastised by holier-than-thou humorless factions in the
>>progressive movement for allowing a photo of radical heartthrob
>>Tamara Trejo, wearing nothing but a guitar with a sticker that read
>>"Doing My Part To Piss Off The Religious Right", to appear on their
>>new cd, "Growing Up The American Way".The bands official response
>>read "Well, we couldn't find a sticker with the slogan Doing My
>>Part To Piss Off Uptight Sanctimonious Self-Righteous Do-Nothings
>>Who Should Know Better, so we had to work with what we had."
> The band is planning numerous appearances this
>summer in support of the new cd, and can be reached at
