SUV Action Day Planned - June 2
16 May 2001
SUVs are the single biggest reason U.S. CO2 emissions continue to rise. A coalition of concerned citizens from the Greater Boston area is planning an SUV Action Day on June 2, at a group of auto dealerships on the Lynnway in Lynn, to talk to our neighbors one on one, asking them not to purchase sport utility vehicles.

What About Us ?

Ok, I was in Quebec City protesing against globalization and the F.T.A.A recently..let's get behind a worthy cause.( which fighting the F.T.A.A. is ) I drive an S.U.V., a Jeep, and I actually use it like it is intended..I get it dirty. Like so many other sportsmen and womyn, I hunt ( if you want to grill have to kill it. Unlike animals from factory farms, mine had a life of freedom before they met their demise ) and I fish ( mostly catch and release )and I'm a surfer. You need 4WD to reach remote places. I like my Jeep because its "bare bones" ( though slightly modified for off-road ) and built for its intended use. I will agree that alot of "soccer-moms" and "yuppies with feelings of inadiquacy" buy these huge vehicles that they absolutely don't need, but that is their choice. My only bitch about S.U.V.s is that are getting to big ( Ford Excursion ), and to's a truck damn it !!!!

SUVs are one of the biggest problems facing all of us today, in the auto industry. They inefficent on fuel, not safe, and contribute to the vast pollution problem in our major metroploitian areas. We have this "energy crisis" on our hands because the demand for gas has skyrocketed in the past five years. There are many contributing factors to this problem, including the building of maore natural gas power plants and such but another major factor is the SUV. In the mid 90's when gas prices were at an alltime low the SUV seemed like it was a good deal. "So what if it only gets 10mpg, it is fun and gas is relatively cheap>" so more and more people started buying and selling the SUV. More and more came on the road and the demand for gas rose expotentially. Now we have a problem almost like the 1970's and something is going to happen. I don't see SUVs selling at the pace they are right now because of the high gas prices and I see more fuel efficent cars on the horizon because of the gas oprices and the way it has affected the consumption of gas. So that is why SUVs suck. Thank you
Energy Crisis?

There's no gas shortage, oil companies are refining crude oil into gasoline at a fracture of the total capacity...This along with required additives and taxes is why gas prices are so high. There is actuatly a glut of oil on international markets.
