An Opportunity for Nader to debate Gore and Bush
01 Sep 2000
How to guarantee a three-way debate between Gore, Bush, and Nader.
The Independent Media Center could facilitate a three-way debate between Gore, Bush, and Nader. If the IMC links up with a live feed from the Boston debates, they could broadcast sections of Bush's and Gore's comments, and allow Nader to respond on the spot to selected comments. If edited properly, the result could be a live three way debate, in which Nader has equal time with the Democratic and Republican candidates. [While there may be a copyright problem, "fair use" provisions, will allow all media organizations, including IMC, Freespeech TV, Pacifica, and other alternative media to broadcast selections of the debate on a delayed basis].

Rather than simply beg and plead for the corporate controlled media to "allow" Nader into the debates, the independent media community should work to create their own three-way debate, requesting Nader's participation. Certainly many of us should make our displeasure toward the Presidential Debates Commission. Yet given the great liklihood that Nader will not be allowed to participate, the independent media workers should attempt to organize an alternative debate forum of the type outlined above.

In this way, a three-way debate will be guaranteed.

Nader, Anarchists, Bush and Gore
11 Sep 2000
Someone should contact Nader/LaDuke on this, and while youre at it ask them when they are going to start talking about the national police brutality problem we've got. That would get a real debate going...also, why not open it up to an articulate anarchist, a socialist, and others who are silenced by the two party system?

Well, if you're really talking about democracy, it should also be open to that rightest wing-nut Pat... whats his name. As much as I can't stand his racist ass, we can't pretend open debates would only include the left.

Nader will probably be on the ballot in about 40 states. There are several other candidates, besides Bush/Gore, who will be on the ballot in more states. If the IMC honestly wanted to be democratic and inclusive it would also have Buchanan, Browne, Hagelin, McReynolds, Moorehead, and Phillips. But of course democracy is not an issue here: control is.
