Radical Queers Hold Kiss-In at Fanieul Hall |

A rowdy group of 60-70 Radical Queers gave avid convention goers and curious onlookers some things to think about during a "Kiss- In" at Fanieul Hall yesterday. At around 6:30 PM, while nearby TV's pumped out convention coverage, Radical Queers shouted slogans like "Keep your laws off my body", "we're here, We're queer, and we want your children". and "Ten Percent is not enough" and kissed each other passionately. |

The majority of the crowd seemed to enjoy the diversion, and some to fully support it. Others seemed confused.
A flyer handed out at the protest read:
We Kiss! We Resist!
This consensual action is to represent our outrage over a system that sponsoirs state sanctioned violence and police aggression while at the same time invades our city and our personal lives and bodies. We resist this system that so comfortably links capitalism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and racism and we believe in working and struggling to make something better through our actions, organizing, and relationships! We also believe there is power in celebrating queer bodies, trans bodies, and our sexuality. -Radical Queers (Boston).

Not confused, just disgusted. But of course, this is what it's all about. No politics except queer politics. It doesn't really matter what happens about the war or anything else if the queers can forward their agenda. Bunch of self absorbed idiots. |

i dont understand on what notconfused is basing the claims of this being only about queer politics. part of the purpose of the action was to increase queer visibility in radical politics, definitely, but the idea was also to make it clear that queer politics are not just about marriage, etc, but are also about the linkages of capitalism, militarism, and general structures of oppression to the ways that queerness is repressed. we were unhappy with the single-issue front that lg(b)(t) politics frequently puts forth, and i think that if you read the article, the statement, or the sign, that would be clear. thanks. |

notconfused is clearly hiding behind the "i'm liberal/radical, therefore i can be homophobic, transphobic, sexist, or racist, and still feel righteous" argument. how transparent. much respect for the kiss-in! |

too bad there are so many people around here that think they're not homophobic but still never see us queers as smart or political like they can see the straight people who never talk about their sexuality. this IS homophobia. it works a lot like sexism... ignoring the messages and politics of people who in your mind you've "feminized" and have this stereotype of as never being able to think for ourselves. if we act & organize against war or occupations or military action and we also demand that bigots stop murdering queer and trans people and that we get adequate healthcare just like everyone deserves, then you can't see past the queerness and you erase us, thinking we only want one thing. we have never said we only want one thing. the first gay pride ever was against the vietnam war. and they were saying "hello, we have a voice too, and we are also against the war, and we are drafted and losing family and against the violence just like everyone else!".
thinking about people like this is only hurting all these movements. please listen and give us a voice like you would anyone else. if you payed attention you would see that this action WAS about war. |

Now what a bunch of intelligent answers. I'm not hideing behind anything and I sure as hell don't feel righteous. As far as being a bigot, if you call anyone who disagrees with YOU a bigot, then so be it. As as far as taking you seriously, how can I when you all have a dumbass kissing protest. I don't see anyone who is successful in policics having a fucking kiss-in, so if you want to be taken seriously, act like you got some sense. |

Such sharp criticism of an action with no analytical or tactical basis can only be viewed as provocative. Serious and experienced activists understand the necessity of a diversity of tactics and how those tactics relate to the communities from which they originate. In the case of the Kiss-In, the action was designed to be inclusive of those who are at greater risk because of their sexual or gender identity. Additionally, it is well understood that homophobia and hate have no place whatsoever in our communities. This makes it clear that "notconfused" is not involved with activist community or experienced in any type of action. The comments of this person should simply be ignored as they are not the opinion of someone who has any kind of connection with our communities and may very well be the opinions of someone who does not even exist. |

-I don't see anyone who is "successful in politics" doing a damb thing other than push sugar coated poisonous pills of reform. I think if the point was "to be taken seriously" then the action would have been staged by a different group called *assimilative* queers. This is my analysis: the kiss in is lived revolution. It is not asking for a new kind of world or working towards it--it is living life in that world. If you want to measure its "efficacity" in terms of diverting "top-down" power in the direction of queer goals that's fine but I think it misses the point. |
