Arrestees Released, Supporter Harrassed
24 Jul 2001
Modified: 25 Jul 2001
The rwo activists arrested at the Italian Consulate were released on bail Tuesday. However, the charges are serious and will require legal support.
Here's some news. More will come later.

Mark Lasky and Geoff Downs got out when bails were reduced to $500 and $250 which were paid in cash by a group of about 20 supporters who stood by them throughout the day. However, during the whole process there was significant harrassment, including the IDing of one of the supporters and her arrest and carting off by the police. She was later processed without any problems.

Other wierd things happened during the abduction, like Mark and Geoff being returned without their clothes and in hospital scrubs.

A wide variety of charges were laid including assault and battery on a police officer with a dangerous weapon, being the most serious (and most ludicrous).

I am very happy to hear that the bails were reduced. Will they aim for a jury trail and take their case to the people of Massachusetts?
Next court date, support

The next court date will be September 27 (mark your calendars!).

If you want to contribute to the defense fund, email sabate36 (at) .

I think the hope is to get the charges dismissed. Court support is
very important, since the cops always show up (probably getting paid
for it too!).
