Pirates Fight Bush in Swing State
19 Oct 2004
Modified: 12:43:42 AM
Yesterday (Sunday October 17th, 2004) members of Pirates Against Bush, based in Boston, traveled up to Concord, New Hampshire in an attempt to fight against the president with flyers, stickers, and banners.
Yesterday, five members of Pirates Against Bush traveled to the swing state of New Hampshire, hoping to influence the nearly 18% of 'likely' voters who are undecided. In Concord, the capital, they passed out almost 600 flyers, pointing to how Bush is bad for people in New Hampshire specifically. One was all about the environment, another was about job loss, and the last was about multiple issues including war, healthcare, and education. The trip was orignally scheduled for Manchester, but was diverted when the Pirates found that handing out flyers was illegal in Manchester without a permit.

Concord has a large shopping area, where most of the flyering was done. Along Main Street there is a Democrat Victory office and a Republican Victory office, and around the corner is a Bush campaign headquarters. New Hampshire was won by Bush in 2000, but by well under 5%. Some polls have Kerry leading in New Hampshire by a four point margin.
Most of the interactions with the locals were positive, including two college age girls thanking them for what they were doing. Not everyone appriciated them though; one man threw their environmental flyer back at them from his SUV and said, "Don't you want to pick up your trash?"
After passing out flyers and putting up stickers, members of Pirates Against Bush hung three banners, two on Route 293 and one on the Everett Turnpike. The first one said "1100 US Soldiers Killed In Iraq", and the banner next to it was the shadow of a soldier in red (above). Over the Everett Turnpike they hung a banner reading "1 in 6 US Children live in poverty. No Child Left Behind?"

Pirates Against Bush invites others to take similar actions. They still have some flyers left, so if people are going to New Hampshire (or Maine, another swing state), contact Pirates at PiratesAgainstBush (at) hotmail.com

So .... you were asking people to vote for Kerry?

Make sure you go shop at CD SPINS! Art Janakas, the owner, wants to make good money off of YOU by selling pirate clothing and jolly rogers. Those guys at Hootnanny want your business too. Also make sure to buy all your dissident clothing and anarchist paraphernalia at the Garment District. Don't be caught dead in home made protest gear!

Pirates wasn't asking people to vote for kerry, but rather we were helping to inform them about Bush's actions and policies which they don't think are talked about enough.
There are more candidates that Bush or Kerry, and there is also the option of not voting at all (gasp!). The group is Pirates Against Bush, not Pirates for Kissing Kerry's Ass. Nothing they did was pro-Kerry, so I suggest you read more carefully.

harsh.

as a matter of fact i read pretty carefully myself and the use of the term "swing state" alludes to the bush/kerry contest pretty blatantly.
