Tiananmen Square: A Famous Place for Resistance-Notes from 1989
26 Aug 2001
For weeks Beijinger's had fraternized among troops. Not every day, not at all hours but at times oranges , gum, soft drinks or a small tupperware were given.

May 28 1989-- Student governing organizations rejected a proposal by the workers federation for a general strike mobilization.

June 3rd 1989--Night fall. 40,000 soldiers loyal to the communist authorities storm through the center of Beijing. These troops are the 27th People's Liberation Army (PLA). They shoot at the tops of buses (where people were sitting) break down barricades and chase protestors. Some people run -over by vehicles and up to 6 bicycles crushed at once. Some protestors armed with Molotov cocktails burn troop trucks and then lay flat on square while sounds of firearms echo off 1950's style architecture. Then protestors stand-up and run like hell for safety. Most deaths occur in east and west working-class residential suburbs near Tiananmen Square. Troops probably came from eastern Beijing's army base. Government wanted to control interstate type approaches to city.

To Be Continued: the death of Hu Yaobang: Top Communist Leader sides permanently with demonstrators his death like many in China is the scene of clashes both in business, in media and among the residents for who can seize the best personnel connections and cultivate them without cooking their own ducks.
