Students will gather for a rally at 1 PM at the Boston Common Bandstand, and then begin a march to Copley Square at 2 PM. The rally will feature Howard Zinn, Boston City Councillor Chuck Turner, current and former student antiwar activists, and student members of Military Families Speak Out who have relatives in Iraq. The demonstration is being organized by the Boston Student Mobilization to End the War.
For the past 21 months Boston area students have held on-campus demonstrations against the war. Faced with the rapidly deteriorating situation in Iraq, student antiwar activists from 13 Boston area colleges and high schools have organized a citywide protest to show that there is a large and diverse opposition to the war among young people. Young people are doing a majority of the fighting and dying, and young people will pay for the growing price tag for this war with a further assault on the standard of living.
This war is being fought by young people and in our name, but it does not have our support. We demand what a majority of Iraqis want—an immediate withdrawal of US forces. On December 4 we will take to the streets to make our demand heard.
The Boston Student Mobilization to End the War is a student organized coalition that includes student antiwar groups from Harvard, Boston University, Umass-Boston, Tufts, Northeastern, Brandeis, MIT, Mount Holyoke, Commonwealth High School, Cambridge Ridge and Latin High School, Emerson College, Lesley University, and Boston College. |

Chuck Turner is a liar. Remember when the Boston Globe published all those fake Abu Ghraib photos that Turner said were real? Chuck Turner is a Boston version of Dan Rather! |

You don't remember when Chuck Turner showed photos he claimed were of abused prisoners? The Boston Globe ran a big story about them! |

Chuck Turner had to cancel, but Zinn will still be speaking. So will Daniel Aldrich from Military Families Speak Out, a representative from the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), and a representative from Save Our Civil Liberties. |

Chuck is anything but a liar. He was quite clear that he was not sure if the pictures were authentic or not. He made that clear to the media at the press conference and to my recollection his reservations were also printed at the end of the article.
He decided however to hold the press conference because the pictures were presented to him and he wanted the media to have them and from there research could have been done to ascertain their authenticity.
I am not one to pat people on the back but since it appears that you do not live in his district, or you do and do not like him, I must say that he has done things for his community that are to be applauded. he has been a leader for brining important issues to the table and demanding justice for the people in this city. That is why is constantly attacked by City Hall and the press.
He is of course not infallible but a liar? No way, no how.
The Globe lies and bangs it out at 50 cents a pop ....where are you on that? |

Turner s presence doesn't matter...your voice is what counts!
Time to get in the streets and tell this city we want change, time to tell them we want our friends back home, time to tell them we believe Irak should live in peace. |

Thanks to Tony Naro for pointing out the true story of Chuck Turner and the Globe story. Its amazing: The man raises a concern, and he's villified. A city hall worker likened him to a "suicide bomber". Disgusting. |

Just to update people, Chuck Turner cancelled and won't be speaking tomorrow, but the rest of the speakers are confirmed.
p.s. Chuck Turner is the best elected official I can think of. A true voice of the people. He's also an excellent speaker. |
