Free Screening of Atomic Cafe // Jan 19
19 Jan 2005
LPC Radical Film Series
Free Screening of ‘Atomic Cafe’
Wed, January 19, 7pm

“lighthearted look at nuclear war, produced during the height of the Cold War entirely using stock footage from the 1940s and 1950s”

Atomic Cafe is a review of the atomic age and the beliefs held by Americans at the time. Many things such as Burt the Turtle who was the figurehead the "Duck and Cover" campaign are featured. Along with these film clips are portions of Army training films and demonstration films concerning atomic testing. All of these clips are combined to show how little the experts knew about atomics at the time. And even more to the heart, the point is to show the extent propaganda was used to mollify the fears of the American public, and her soldiers.

+++ Use our space for radical stuff

One of the most important aspects of the Lucy Parsons Center is providing a community meeting place for radical activities. If you want to host an event, please send an email to Rebecca at rebeccabatchelder (at) Make sure to give enough notice so that we can approve the event at our bimonthly meetings.

If you have a group that needs a space to have regular meetings, just come to the bookstore and fill out a space request form. Again, make sure to allow time for approval by the collective.

+++ Donate MONEY!

We need support to help ensure the Lucy Parsons Center continues to grow and be an important resource for the community. Donations can be made in the form of cash, check or credit cards. Please call the store for more info. If you don't have a lot, don't worry, even donating the change of your purchase can make a difference.

Too bad Antifa doesn't know who the real fascist enemy is--states like Israel, USA, and the UK. While it may be more fun and "militant" to go out and bash some boneheads, it's not getting anything accomplished in the bigger picture (but then again, why would soft-zionist "anarcho" socialists want to criticize Israel?). . .

guess what idiot? this movie isn't put on by antifa, it's put on by the Lucy Parsons Center. Can you read? and in case you didn't know, anarchists oppose all states... actually quite contrary to what you are saying, groups like antifa with concrete goals that are attainable (resisting all forms of fascism, not just boneheads) rather than holding up anti-us signs, are the people making a difference. and what the fuck is your obsession with israel anyway? sure the israeli state does shitty things, but what about all the other governments of the world, such as saudi arabia? unlike you, groups like antifa are able to make a difference, even if it is in a small way, by focusing on a general problem, not picking 2 or 3 countries and whining about them on the internet. fine, if you think the us, uk and israel should be shut down, go do it yourself. antifa never asked you to fight fascists, boneheads, or anyone.

Curious to know why you thought a screening of Atomic Cafe had anything to do with Antifa.

But seriously, keep up the internet trolling. It rocks!!
