On Sunday, September 23 from 1:00-2:30pm, at Copley Square,
individuals,
organizations and communities from the Boston area are gathering to
mourn the loss of life on September 11, to stand against the cycle of
violence, and to give their support to those who are being targeted on
the grounds of ethnicity and religion in the wake of this tragedy.

Representatives from the Sikh, Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities
will join with others of conscience to come together for music, prayer,
poetry and reflection. Invited speakers will offer personal testimony,
share their own reactions to the violence and destruction of the 11th,
and offer visions
for responding. Other speakers will address instances of scapegoating
and offer a human face to communities that have been demonized.

Event organizers stress the importance of understanding the root causes
of the
violence. "As an Arab-American watching the tragedy unfold and then
hearing the
stories of the backlash directed towards the various communities living
here in the US has made this a very painful time," says Tareef Kawaf of
the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC). "Our hope is
that this event will unite people, and remind them that we need to work
together to ensure that
the ideals of this land are not a further casualty of the act of
terror."
