La Rivolta! Anarcha-Feminist Punk Festival March 5-6
21 Feb 2005
La Rivolta! is a celebration of the radical women of history and the battles they waged as well as a forum for solidarity among radical feminists today to continue the fight for the liberation of all oppressed people.
La Rivolta! on March 5-6 in Boston is a two day anarcha-feminist festival celebrating International Women's Day with music, workshops and solidarity across borders.

A full day of workshops and music. The workshops will focus on women's radical activism and struggles both locally and internationally. While providing information, the workshops are meant to inspire us to action, debate and bring our work together. The punk concert that evening will feature women in bands that have both powerful music and lyrics- a good time to celebrate! There will also be a self-defense class, information tables and more during the day.

Sunday March 6th will be a more relaxed social day. A People's Kitchen will serve brunch and there will be an open atmosphere of discussion and debate. After will be another evening of music to dance to!

Daughters of the Video Revolution are now planning on video-taping La Rivolta! and creating a documentary that will capture the information, energy, perspectives and music of the day. Thanks to Cambridge Community Television for all their help, and providing a voice for the people!

Workshop leaders and information tables are now being confirmed. We are excited to be working with the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, The Women's Center, PhillysPissed, Lucy Parson's Center, The Papercut Collective (zine library), Bitches Brew Boston (homebrew collective), and others.

While many of the festival plans are already prepared, this is a busy time for the collective. Here are some of the working groups and tasks volunteers can become involved with: putting together a FANZINE for the festival, women reading excerpts from women's radical history during the punk show, and creating a women's radical art space at the festival. We also need volunteers to help out during the day with different tasks.

We now have fabulous La Rivolta! flyers and posters. If you can help spread the word about the event and would like flyers, please get in touch. Also, we can send you the description of the event via email, so you can pass the word on to all your email lists. Any help would be appreciated to let people know about this amazing event.

If you would like to be put on the volunteer/news email list, or get involved with the items above, please contact us.

All workshops are free and open to the public.

Anarcha-Punk Festival March 5-6

Both concerts will celebrate International Women's Day through punk music that rejects our current capitalist, patriarchal society- with blazing guitars!

As Emma Goldman said, "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution."

Punk rock has, for many of us women and girls, been an outlet for our anger at the world, a way to express ourselves, and also a community in which we can find support for both our art and activism. These are not easy things to find in this patriarchal society, that tells girls to stay in their place, and keep quiet!

These concerts are also an opportunity for punks who want to become more active to meet up and organize. Also, it will create a space that is OURS, where we can celebrate women's radical history, scream against the system of oppression, and dance!

La Rivolta! Manifesto

La Rivolta! is a celebration of the radical women of history and the battles they waged as well as a forum for solidarity among radical feminists today to continue the fight for the liberation of all oppressed people.

The patriarchal capitalist system that designates women to a lesser status than men also underestimates women's capacity to challenge the existing order and improve our circumstances. We must tap into our individual and collective strengths and build support for political and cultural efforts aimed at social change.

La Rivolta! is a chance for us to meet, exchange information and ideas and to learn about each other's struggles and practical efforts to overcome them. Drawing from the incredible people committed to radical feminism in our community in Boston as well as in other cities and countries, La Rivolta! will unite individuals and groups across fields of activity from anarcho-punk rock to anti-violence against women, from anti-prison work to women's health care towards the greater empowerment of all women.

The battle for women's liberation must be fought within the framework of class struggle. As long as there is a ruling class neither women nor men will be free. We must understand the society within which we live and continually reevaluate what it takes to change it, so that we may more forcefully vie with those who would prefer to keep us in ignorance and fear, those who become richer and richer while robbing the majority of material well-being, those who deny us our rights, those who want state control over our bodies, use us as fodder in their wars, attempt to pacify us with false elections, and decimate our environment. We envision a society based on freedom and equality in which poverty and privilege, class and injustice, sexism and racism and homophobia are on the scrap heap of history. Our goal is the emancipation of all oppressed and exploited people, and as part of the ongoing fight we must address issues that impact women specifically. This can only be achieved through our own efforts.

United we are strong. Communicating and building networks of support makes us stronger. La Rivolta!

To whoever posted this (although thanks for the thought) and to all you out there reading it, this is not the correct workshop schedule or the full list of workshops. Please check the La Rivolta! website for updates or get in touch with us before making your festival plans.
