except that the "official" organizers derailed the march by extending the rally to 3 hours, thinning the crowd tenfold and giving the police time to bring in their reinforcements. they did this when they heard they werent getting a permit to march.
we could have marched 5,000 strong, instead we were 500. this was cowardice on the part of the organizers, and courage on the part of everyone who marched. at least we had each other's backs, even if "boston mobilization" and the self-appointed "leaders of the movement" did not.
this war demands a stronger response next time. |

i completely agree with 'why?' because i showed up around 1 pm and didn't realize that nothing would happen until hours and hours later. even i didnt have as much energy (even though i stayed)
we need to be more organized next time and take the streets sooner |

Nice banners. Too bad there isn't more leadership coming from revolutionary groups like the La Rivolta, NEFAC or IWW in the local anti-war movement and less from liberal groups like Boston Mobe. |

Well, hmm. La Rivolta is a brand new collective that just put a ton of energy into a conference. NEFAC seems to be focusing its energy elsewhere than the anti-war movement (and let's be honest, how would their "leadership" be received?). When we asked the IWW if they wanted to send a representative to the spokescouncil-ish thing, they said something about police brutality. In Seattle.
If we want solid anarchist leadership (not as in "leaders" but as in well-informed initiative, communication skills, energy and direction) in the antiwar movement, we have to start cultivating it among ourselves. This doesn't necessarily mean trying to set up another umbrella group or even coalition for the purpose, but it does mean gathering and sharing resources, making better connections among ourselves between protests, forming tight, consistent affinity groups ready for action, studying, and being patient. And ultimately, if anarchists are going to take more than a spectacular role in the anti-war movement, we need to figure out how to welcome people into anarchism who might have a lot to contribute but are put off by the current face we show and either join the liberals, join the authoritarian leftists, or walk away shaking their heads. |

Yeah, yeah I didn't mean these groups in particular or exclusively. I meant anarchist groups in general who have good politics and would support a diversity of tactics and not bore us with five hours of speechifying to the converted. The more the merrier, these three just happened to have nice banners posted above. |
