Bestselling author, radio commentator, and cultural critic Sarah Vowell examines the sites of political violence in the US, exploring how death and the dead are manipulated for fun and profit in our political life and in our popular culture, including film, literature, and her beloved pastime — historical tourism. Vowell tells of visits to Buffalo, Washington, Dallas, Memphis, and Key West. She relates the jinx that was Robert Todd Lincoln — who was present for Lincoln's, Garfield's, and McKinley's assassinations. And she uncovers the bickering and politicking that went into the making of the Lincoln Memorial.
