Boston Media Blackout
15 Oct 2001
Modified: 17 Nov 2001
We wonder if the Boston Globe and their ilk will cover the round-up of innocent civillians in the expanding police state of the New World Order?! They may want to do at least that, given that THEY"LL be next
You'd never know thousands of Massachusetts residents demonstrated in Copley Square and marched for peace through Boston's streets yesterday by reading or watching the city's mainstream media. ONLY Boston Indymedia seems to have any reference to the spirited event which brought together people from all walks of life under the banner: OUR GRIEF IS NOT A CRY FOR WAR.
What's the mainstream media thinking? How about WAR and anthrax sensationalism! Not to mention lock-stepping behind the present occupant of the White House and the ominous shadow of the Office of Homeland Security. The banned-in-Boston mentality nurtured so studiously over the decades by the city's mainstream media, comes as no surprise to those familar with past news blackouts. However, in the growing hysteria of the "war against terrorism" one wonders just how far these media moguls will go to tow the party line and not appear "unpatriotic" by making any reference to dissent within our borders.
As it is, the 1st Amendent is already in tatters. Add to that the so-called "Uniting and Strengthing America Act", newspeak for the Anti-terrorism Bill about to land on Bush's desk, which further shreds the Bill of Rights with broad definitions of "terrorist" (like anyone attending a demonstration like the one yesterday). Now, Boston's mainstreamers want to push the remains down the Orwellian Memory Hole by having us believe everyone stands behind the killing of innocent civillians in other nations in retaliation for the killing of our innocent civillians in our nation.
But the lack of coverage in the Globe, Herald, WBZ-TV and elswhere will not make such demonstrations go away. In fact, it may bring them to their own doors! A rising awareness of the cracks in the foundation of the so-called "war against terrorism" will fuel more such peaceful events in the near future, unless of course, The Office of Father....er...Homeland Security sends in the Gestapo; leaving us to wonder if the Boston Globe and their ilk will cover the round-up of innocent civillians in the expanding police state of the New World Order?! They may want to do at least that, given that THEY"LL be next.

Online boston globe has article page a13
15 Oct 2001
I skimmed the Globe today and must have missed the article - but it's probably there. See article from page A13 on www.bostonglobe.com.

To find the article search on "peace". (Couldn't find anything in the online Herald.)

Here's the first paragraph

PROTEST MARCH
Antiwar activists urge US to atone
By Douglas Belkin, Globe Staff, 10/15/2001

The antiwar effort that has been quietly
percolating on college campuses and
sparsely attended rallies grew to a rolling boil for a
few hours yesterday as about 2,000 activists
marched 20 blocks from Copley Square into the
South End, blocking streets and making enough
noise to set off car alarms.

Standing on her porch on Shawmut Street,
Miguelena de Jesus flashed the peace sign back at
protesters as she watched a parade that stretched
five blocks. Protesters ranged from black-hooded
anarchists and activists dressed up as white doves of
peace.
Fairies Wear Boots
15 Oct 2001
Fairies Wear Boots

Goin' home late last night,
Suddenly I got a fright
Yeah, I looked through a window and surprise what I saw:
Fairy boots are dancin' with a dwarf
All Right Now!

Yeah Fairies wear boots, and you gotta believe me
Yeah, I saw it, I saw it I tell you no lies
Yeah Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it I saw it with my own two eyes
Woah Right Now!

Yeah Fairies wear boots, and you gotta believe me
Yeah, I saw it, I saw it I tell you no lies
Yeah Fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it I saw it with my own two eyes
Alright Now!

So I went to the doctor, see what he could give me
He said, "Son, son you've gone too far,
" 'Cos smokin' an trippin' is all that you do." Yeah
Accuracy in the Media

I have a great idea for you.

Why don't you send a copy of your illiterate screed to the media, and include a little powder cocaine for the "man" to enjoy.

Then I'm thinking you will get lots and lots of attention.

Police State
15 Oct 2001
If this is such a "police state" how come I get paid crap? I mean, really, I carry a sheild, so where is my piece of the pie?

But yeah, it was just awful how the government declared martial law, suspended the Constitution, shut down the media, and then FEMA started rounding up all of the activists and putting them in concentration camps, along with all Arabs and Muslims...oh wait, that only would happen in your FANTASIES because this is a freedom loving country!

Oh well screw it...my wife almost has my dinner ready, gotta run...
Screeds and Police States
16 Oct 2001
that illiterate screed was actually written by ozzy osbourne, from black sabbath's 'paranoid' album. i'm not sure what it's doing here besides wasting space, or perhaps it was the author's aim to compare people who criticize the media for lack of relevant coverage to toasted english blooz metalheads crying wolf.

does the original post cry wolf? does a story on page A13 of globe do sunday's march justice? i don't think so. the globe has done a decent job of showing us satellite before-and-after photos, but not much more.

people at indymedia complain that we do too much coverage of obvious events like the marches, rallies, vigils, and protests. i agree, but only on the basis that they seem so obvious that mainstream media will at least give them proportionate airtime. we're here to report the undereported and flame the mainstream media whenever it fails to report the obvious.
Foot in superhero mouth syndrome

Oh, so now you are claiming to be a cop, eh Cap'n? That's a new one. Funny, here you claim poverty, but on the Ontario IMC, you claimed wealth. Which is it?

Well, you are half right, anyway. Martial law has not been called in America. However, habeas corpus for foreigners has been suspended. You are also right that "all Arabs and Muslims" have not been rounded up and thrown in jail - illegal detention is only the fate of about 1000 "Arabs and Muslims."

By the way, if you "did grad work in anthropology," as you claimed on the Atlanta IMC, why are you a cop? Just curious.

Keep on discreditting youself...
