Does offering no punishment, not to mention allowing them to live, discourage terrorists from acting again? Sorry, but in response to all the panjandrum's of the left who are dogmatically fixated on the fear that US military action will create a new generation of Islamic martyrs, I implore you with yet another question: What about the 6,000 Plus American Martyrs that THEY created on September 11? Martyrdom is not confined to the Islamic world.

You are implying that the 6,000 +/- people who died on Sept 11th were martyrs, they were not - they died unknowingly for no cause that they were activly involved in. They were victims, much like the current bombing of Afghanistan is producing - more victims. But what happens to the victims surviving friends and families? Will they turn around, with great astounding understanding of the situation and say - we deserve to be bombed? No, anger will grow inside them much like it grew inside the U.S. people. They will fall fate to what we have fallen to, revenge and destruction. Very few, if any, are saying that nothing is to be done about this situation. However, bombing is accomplishing very little - and the "humanitarian" dropping of food is pitiful - its just a tactic in this war. What we are doing right now is using gasoline in an attempt to extinguish a fire, it probably won't work - not until we're either out of oxygen, out of gasoline or left with nothing to burn - or all three. If we truly reach out to people around the world who may rightly feel oppressed and help them - only then can we "smoke out" the terrorists - for friends do not provide cover for enemies, knowingly at least. That's what I'm thinking right now at least...
