Weekly Indymedia Reporting Workshop, Friday 5/27 6:30 PM
17 May 2005
Modified: 04:24:58 PM
All are welcome to attend our totally FREE writer's workshop for those interested in Local Reporting.

As two time Polk winner John Kifner once said, "All reporting is local."

The class will start at 6:30pm sharp at 33 Harrison Ave, 4th Floor, the office of Boston Indymedia in the UNITE- HERE union building.

This is near Chinatown, Boylston, Downtown Crossing and South Station T stops. Silver line too-

If you need directions or get lost on the way call IMC at 617-338-0184, Pete at 617-620-1989 or see this map link
So we will be discussing accuracy--- how to check the facts and how to make sure you don't get hauled off to jail or lynched by an angry mob for writing a story.

We will also start discussing our first assignment- open for discussion - but I thought we could all write a short (500 word) story sometime soon. So we could bring 3 ideas each for our stories tonight (if you get this email in time!) and together we can help us pick the right ones to do...

we'll go over the writing tip of the week too...

see you guys there!

There will be plenty of time for discussion and ideas for the direction of the class. As we move along we can decide what we want to study together, one task at a time.

Right now the class is just beginning to read the Book "newsthinking" by Bob Baker and discussing writing tools published by Roy Peter Clark. You don't necessarily have to buy the book however. The intro will be handed out in class and arrangements can be made for getting copies of individual chapters if you can't afford the book.
