Update on the Somerville 5
STOP RACIAL PROFILING AND POLICE BRUTALITY!

DROP THE FRAME-UP CHARGES AGAINST CALVIN BELFON, CASSIUS BELFON, EARL GUERRA, ISIAH ANDERSON & MARQUIS ANDERSON!

These Five Somerville High School Students Have been Unjustly Suspended Indefinitely - Reinstate Them NOW!

The next court date is scheduled for 9:00 on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Cambridge Superior Court, 40 Thorndike St. in Cambridge. Lechmere stop.

On Tuesday, May 24 in a strong show of support, friends, family, community groups, supporters packed the courtroom to support Calvin Belfon, Jr. and Isiah Anderson both 17. They are being tried as adults and face the severest charges of all five youth. In what can only be seen as a vindictive, racist campaign on behalf of the Medford Police with the backing of the prosecutor and the DA, they are attempting to force the case to Superior Court. This is outrageous.

These young men have no prior records at all and to make such a serious move is part of a frame up campaign against these 5 high school students and part of a continued cover-up of the brutal, violent actions of the Medford Police that night. We must continue to keep the pressure on and make our voices heard. It is the Medford Police who should be put on trial for racial profiling and police brutality! We will continue to fight until justice is won.

Last week, in an outrageous decision by Somerville School Superintendent Albert Argenziano and Somerville High School Principal Thomas Galligani, the SHS 5 were suspended indefinitely from school.

"This decision callously disregards the hundreds of people across the U.S. and even the world who called, emailed and faxed Dr. Argenizano's office all last week demanding the 5 students immediate reinstatement. It also callously disregards the 300 SHS students who signed a petition asking for their peers' immediate reinstatement. It can only be seen as a racist, vindictive act as even Massachusetts law does not require Argenziano to suspend, it leaves it up to his discretion. But, apparently the School Superintendent and the Principal have appointed themselves judge and jury in this case and decided that the 5 students are "guilty until proven innocent". Whatever happened to due process?" said Phebe Eckfeldt of the Committee to Defend the SHS 5 Against Police Brutality.

Please call, fax or write Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley, 40 Thorndike Street, Cambridge MA 02141 Tel: 617-679-6500 Fax: 617-225-0871 right away and demand: Drop the racist, frame-up charges against all 5 youth immediately! Independent, community investigation into Medford Police Stop racial profiling and police brutality lease continue to call, email or fax the Somerville Superintendent of Schools and the School Committee to demand that these students be reinstated immediately.

Just for the sake of arguement, what if the cops really were the victims ? Shouldn't we wait until all the facts are in ? Just a thought.

Anarchists never wait for the facts when cops are involved. They always assume that the cops are wrong.

... rich kids for the most part who hate cops because they relate anybody in a position of authority to their parents. Their parents spoiled and let them do whatever, there for they think the rest of society has to fuction that way.

The Black Panther Party defined a pig as " a foul traducer, often found posing as the victim of an unprovoked attack"

because, of course, the cops never did anything to anyone. they rarely rape, brutalize, rob, disenfranchise, or unfairly arrest anyone. none of them are racists. none of them are sexist. any of them that are and do these things are, of course, only "bad apples."

As an African-American, I get offended when rich white kids glorify the Black Panther Party. Yes, they gave away a few free breakfasts, but the BPP was nothing but a front for drug dealing street thugs who terrorized MY people and my community. WE can enpower and take care of OUR own community WITHOUT about a bunch of patronizing, upper middle class telling us what good for us. F*CK the BPP !!!!!!
