Vigil for Cindy Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan, mother of Army Specialist Casey Sheehan who was killed in Iraq, continues her vigil outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. She was recently joined by more moms who lost a child in Iraq and other military families. Meanwhile President Bush continues his five-week vacation and pledged Thursday to keep U.S. troops in Iraq—meaning more moms will lose a child.
Cindy has asked supporters to start candlelight vigils in their communities to support her and call for an end to the war. So, MoveOn is teaming up with True Majority and Democracy for America to host Vigils for Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday, August 17th, to show our solidarity with Cindy. |

why is cindy talking about israel? she's losing the point of her message and a lot of support from potential allies. i agree with her message but it is strategically a really stupid move. focus on one thing at once and get your point across- changing the subject confuses and annoys people. UJP and ANSWER always make the same mistake. |

She's talking about against Isreal because she is pro- Palestinian....Part 2 Anti-War on September 24 on the common... What about 0-29 ?? I'm going to NYC. I can't speak for others and I can do alot of things, but the one thing I can't do is be in two places at the same time. |

I have mixed feelings about what Ms. Sheehan is doing, however since her actions seem to be drawing attention to our message, shouldn't we focus on more than Bush ? What about Hillary ? She voted for the war and almost certainly will be running for president in '08, and she is the MOST powerful person in the democratic party. The truth is the war most likely will still be going in during the '08 campaign, and if we are going to get our message out to the masses, that is, we want to end the war, not just be engaged in Bush bashing, we should be camped out in front of Ms. Clinton's residence too. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. |

Hillary is a political bubble. I think only people in the DNC think she can win a national election. Let's hold her accountable for sure, but not by placing her on a pedestal that implies she really is as popular as the powers that be want us to think. As for Cindy and Israel, she's talking about it because the simple fact is that were it not for the authors of "A Clean Break--Securing the Realm" (Perle, Feith, et al, advising Netanyahu on how to protect Israel) the false case for war against Iraq would not have been made. This is not, I REPEAT, NOT the same as saying that Jews drink babies blood or what not. This is simple geopolitics. Those who refuse to see that the focus on Israel has to do not with anti-Semitism but with a real concern for the integrity of the American political process are the worst kind of obfuscators, willing to cheapen the real and important legacy of genuine anti-Semitism for the political gain of the Israeli right-wing. Remind you of anyone stateside? |

The whole thing about Sheehan talking about Israel is actually a fabrication. She has actively denied it on her blog. |

big ups to the point of holding democrats accountable for the war too. thats we were in the streets against the DNC last summer. Kerry was pro-war, but people ignored that. we've got to force the democrats to run someone who is anti war, else we should refuse to support them |

there is one corporate party with two heads. these two heads blather on against each other to distract the people from what their body is doing. progressives need to withhold support from the democratic party intil such a time as the party explicitly announces a more bold social direction for its platform.politics as usual will never change until we change the way we deal with these parties. |
